Acuvue Define – Vivid Style Daily Contacts

July 22, 2020

I am back with another contacts review! After reviewing the Angelcolor Circle Lens earlier this year, I wanted to try some other brands. Since I don’t wear contacts often, I like to order dailies. I ordered these off Clearly Contacts (not sponsored) but you could get these anywhere in Canada.

Compared to the Asian market, the Western market does not offer nearly as much colour contacts or circle lenses, making my selection quite limited.

The Acuvue Define line has 3 different “colors”. I say “colours” with quotation because they are mostly just brown or black. There used to be more colours but they have been discontinued.

I decided on the vivid style for my first order (middle). The accent style looked similar to my Angelcolor contacts, and I wanted something different. However, if you are looking for circle lens, I would recommend the accent style as you will soon find out why!

Base curve: 8.5
Diameter: 14.2

The reason I don’t wear contacts often is because my eyes get quite dry and uncomfortable with them. Over the years, I have found better brands that don’t bug my eyes as much, but I find that the next day, my eyes feel quite dry sometimes.

On first look, the vivid style contacts were very comfortable, natural and light. Daily contacts are also thinner and more fragile, so you have to handle them with care.

Before
After

After putting them on, I was a bit disappointed because I couldn’t notice much of a difference. Only if I looked super closely, would I have noticed a difference. My pupils did look clearer and more defined up close. If I am purposely buying coloured contacts, I would like it to show up more.

On the plus side, I did find these contacts to be super comfortable! Since I purchased a 30 pack, I wouldn’t mind continuing to wear them.

Wearing Acuvue Define Vivid Style here. Barely notice a difference!

From afar like in this selfie, you can’t tell that I’m wearing them. If I’m wearing coloured contacts and paying more for them (they cost more than your regular contacts) I’d like them to be more noticeable.

In addition, my eye diameter is the same measurement as these contacts so if your diameter is 14.2 or less, your pupils will probably show up slightly bigger…… but I doubt the difference is noticeable.

All in all, these were very comfortable but I wouldn’t recommend them as they are barely noticeable as circle lenses. I’d be more inclined to try the accent style (see above for picture) next time.

Angelcolor Circle Lens Contacts Review

May 12, 2020

Coloured contacts and circle lens are very common in Asian countries! A lot of people wear these daily in Asia and it’s becoming quite popular here in Canada too.

What are circle lens? Circle lens contain a black or brown ring (or circle) around the iris. This effect makes your eyes appear cuter, rounder and brighter. Circle lens can also be coloured lens as well. For example, you can have a grey coloured lens with a black circle around.

I had a brief stint back in 2012 with Acuvue purple lenses and I remember those feeling super uncomfortable and dry for me. However, coloured contacts have come along since 8 years ago so I hoped for the best!

I wear contacts very occasionally, perhaps a handful of times a year. I’ve tried to wear them in the past more often but my eyes are quite dry so they’re uncomfortable. My eyes seem to be okay if I wear dailies occasionally though.

With that being said, I never got into the coloured contacts or circle lens trend until my latest trip to Japan. Maki recommended Angelcolor so I kept my “eyes” out for this brand in Osaka! There are many contact lens booths and stores that sell these. However, I found it hard to find prescription ones. I had to go to many stores before finding one with my prescription.

There aren’t many (or any) stores in Vancouver or Canada that sell Japanese brands such as Angelcolor, so your best bet is to buy them online. Maki recommended Rakuten and the pricing is the exact same as in Japan.

The only thing is that you have to pay for shipping which is $20 ish dollars (they only offer express shipping hence why it’s pricier)

I chose the bambi series in the color almond. It is a brown contact with a black circle!

Wearing Angelcolor circle lens in the colour “almond”

Here is a pic of me with them on. Appearance wise, I didn’t find these too dramatic or noticeable. I thought that the brown would slightly lighten my eye colour but it didn’t which was disappointing.

I would prefer something more noticeable so I would go lighter for my next order. It did give my eyes a rounder appearance which looked cute!

My eyes without circle lens for comparison

To be honest, I was a bit wary and doubtful that these circle lenses would work out for me because of how sensitive my eyes are to contacts.

I found these surprisingly comfortable to wear! They were very moisturizing and breathable. The circle lens themselves were very thin and light since they are dailies.

At some points throughout the day, I forgot I was wearing them because of how comfortable it was. Of course there were some moments where it felt uncomfortable so I made sure to always have eye drops with me but most of the time I couldn’t feel them.

I would pick chocolate next time instead of almond as I’d like a lighter colour.

I would recommend the Angelcolor brand for their 1 day contacts. There are so many circle lens brands out there that it is overwhelming to pick. But coming from someone who has dry eyes and can’t wear contacts for a long time, I was very happy with these and will be placing another order when I run out!

Beauty: Nature Republic Hand Cream

October 9, 2019

Hand cream seems like a pretty basic thing to write about, because it’s just hand cream right? However, I do believe that not all hand creams are made the same. It has to be very rich because I work with my hands all day and wash my hands a lot (#germaphobeproblems), yet absorbs quickly so it doesn’t distract me from work, driving, cooking etc.

When Cheese went to Korea last year, she gave me a Nature Republic hand cream as a gift. It has been a staple in my makeup bag and one of the best handcreams I have used, next to the Crabtree and Evelyn one.

It’s no secret that Korea is a forerunner in all things beauty…. Now that I think of it, Korean food and K-Pop as well. Korean culture is quite popular in Vancouver now too!

Anyways, back to the review… Since Korea is a forerunner in all things beauty, it shouldn’t come to a surprise that this hand cream is amazing!

Application: It comes in a standard tube with a good quality plastic twist cap so that it doesn’t spill and smear all over your bag.

A tiny drop usually does the trick because it has has a thick texture. Th cream absorbs instantly into my skin. I love that it feels softer right away without a sticky feeling so I can get right back to my activities.

The scent of this one is great as well. It has a floral and delicate scent.

I would definitely purchase this again and perhaps try out another scent. It would also make a nice, small gift for a friend.

Yay!

Price: Not sure, was given as a gift

Beauty: Dole Plantation Pineapple Loofah Soup

August 15, 2019

When Macaroni went on a trip to Hawaii earlier this year, she gave the boyfriend and I a pineapple loofah soap from the Dole Plantation! We have not yet to been to Hawaii but it is on our travel list. In the meantime, we will have this pineapple loofah soup as a souvenir!

The loofah in embedded in the soap, and I would say that most of the product is loofah. After the first five washes or so, most of the pineapple scented soap has been used up. While it lasted, the soap cleaned well and had a delicious pineapple scent.

Now, we keep this in our shower as an exfoliator. The picture above is probably after ~5 ish uses, you can see that the soap around the edges has been used up. As an exfoliator, it is great! It is rough and durable, and helps you scrub all the dead skin off. You don’t need to apply a lot of pressure as the loofah is already rough. I like to use this about 3-4x a week as you are not supposed to exfoliate every day.

Also, did you know that loofah is a type of vegetable, which is usually dry and grown on vines? It is part of the cucumber family!

Anyone know of a good natural loofah soap? Once this is used up, I would love to purchase another one! Or maybe it’s time to go to Hawaii…. 😉

Yay!

Beauty: Acure Seriously Soothing Wipes

June 28, 2019

It’s been awhile since I reviewed makeup wipes here! I was sent some wipes from Acure and after testing it out, here is what I thought of them.

This line is the ‘Seriously Soothing’ line, which is made with micellar water and suitable for normal to sensitive skin. Micellar water is made up of micelles. Micelles are molecules which attract dirt and oil, so it is effective in cleaning your skin (source if you’d like to read more).  This whole time, I thought micellar water was some type of natural mineral water LOL!

What it says (taken from press release):

Acure is on a mission is provide sustainable personal care products of the highest quality that are fair trade, natural and certified organic.  Their products are made with plant and food based ingredients and are free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, petrochemicals, or animal bi-products.  With clinically proven results  that without the use of gluten, synthetic preservatives or fragrances, they can provide scientific nutritional support to enhance the skin’s own ability to regenerate optimally.

Anyways, this is a compact box and suitable for a gym bag, large purse, or travelling. It comes with 30 towelettes.

Application: The towelettes were moistened and I found them to be thicker than other makeup wipes that I have used. They were really soft too.

A good comparison would be that it was more like the Charmin ultra thick toliet paper compared to a public washroom one-ply toliet paper… We all know Charmin is the best. If you’re disgusted or offended by talking about toliet paper, we probably wouldn’t get along or be friends. 😉

I was really surprised when it removed all of my foundation completely. When using a makeup wipe, I would usually follow up with a cleanser to make sure everything was removed. However, my skin felt really clean after one towelette. I still used a cleanser afterwards though because it felt weird to just leave it.

I would really recommend the Acure Seriously Soothing Wipes. They did not dry out my skin and cleaned very well. Sometimes I’ll quickly use these wipes when I don’t feel like splashing water on my face with my face towel and making a mess everywhere (because I’m clumsy). I would wipe my eyes and eyebrows, and then use a damp towel to wipe away any residue.

Yay!

Price: $8.99 (so cheap for the quality and effectiveness of these!)
