Jowaé- New Beauty Brand Introduction

October 23, 2018

I am happy to share a new brand on my blog today, by the name of Jowaé (pronounced cho-wha-e). They are part of the French based beauty company, Alès Groupe, and influenced by the science behind Korean beauty products hence the Korean sounding name.

I have been trying their products for a couple weeks now after finding its reviews on tashanicolewright.com, and will be slowly rolling out individual product reviews of my own! This post will be a quick introduction to all of the products currently available in Canada.

From left to right-

Purifying cleanser gel: Suitable for those with combination to oily skin. It has notes of jasmine, mandarin orange, and mint. It also contains purifying and smoothing sacred lotus extract, and lipoaminoacid which neutralises bacteria to minimize breakouts and infections.

Soothing cleansing milk: This contains the lovely benefits of peony, vegetable glycerin, sunflower oil, and jojoba oil to help clean and moisturize your face. It is a gentle and creamy cleanser.

Wrinkle smoothing light cream: The highlight of this cream is the red ginseng. Growing up Chinese, I was always told to have ginseng chicken broth soup for the tremendous amount of health benefits, and now it is being used in skincare too. Ginseng helps collagen production and protects cells from UV damage.

Hand & nail cream: Currently the only hand cream that Jowae carries in Canada. The packaging reminds me of chamomile, but it is actually made with camellia oil.

Youth concentrate complexion correction: If you have dark spots, this is the product for you! It contains twice as concentrated lumiphenols, which is an antioxidate, as well as white tea.

Wrinkle smoothing rich cream: This product is from the same family as the wrinkle smoothing light cream. The only difference is that this one has a thicker consistency. I would recommend this as a night time moisturizer, and then the light cream as a morning moisturizer.

Wrinkle smoothing eye serum: This product is from the same family as the wrinkle smoothing light cream, and also contains red ginseng.

Hydrating water mist: The favourite product of the night! The water mist contains refreshing Sakura blossom that is immediately absorbed by the skin. It is suitable for use after makeup application too.

Moisturizing light cream: Admittedly, I have been using this product the most because of how much I love the fragrance! It contains Sakura blossom just like the hydrating water mist. There is also a hint of jasmine. The two combined help wake me up in the morning and keep my skin moisturized and soft throughout the day!

Revitalizing moisturizing lotion: Last but not the least, their body cream! It contains bamboo water as the featured ingredient. The body cream absorbs quickly and says that it will not leave a sticky residue after.

Now, you’re probably wondering where you can find JOWAE products! They are currently exclusively available at Shoppers Drug Mart. Everything is reasonably mid priced, averaging around $25-$30 a product.

Stay tuned for some individual product reviews!

Beauty: Palmer’s Coconut Oil – Giveaway!!!

March 28, 2018

Mmmm….coconut oil. One of the most trendy products out there in the past few years. Coconut oil has been known for many things other than beauty (Non-beauty pro tip: Cooking steak in coconut oil with a dash of salt and pepper is amazing).

Coconut oil has many hydrating factors for skin and hair. That is why Palmer’s has released a new Coconut Oil line. Palmer’s new Coconut Oil line contains ethically and sustainably sourced coconuts. The formula deeply hydrates your skin. For me personally, coconut is reminiscent of summer and warm weather… So the scent of coconut always transports me to a tropical paradise.

Here is a review on each of the new Palmer’s Coconut Oil line!

Body oil: The body oil is light weight and focuses on boosting your skin and making it look radiant. It is quite slippery and watery which is expected for a body oil, so no surprise there. I liked that it absorbed very quickly so that it didn’t leave a mess.
Body lotion: Since coconut oil is naturally high in fatty acids and protein, it works wonders on the skin. The lotion moisturizes very well and smells great. Compared to the body butter, it is a lot lighter and has the consistency of your typical lotion.
Body cream: The cream has the richest and thickest level of moisturizer. Think of the texture of a body butter. Actually, even thicker… it reminded me of very thick Greek yogurt. It really repairs dry and cracked skin.

Well, there you have it! Coconut oil is amazing, and so is coconut water. Writing this post has made me want to get a can of coconut water!

Check out my review of their Cocoa Butter line as well!

Beauty: LUSH Sleepy Lotion

November 24, 2017

Lately, my social media feeds have been filled with the LUSH Sleepy lotion, which many avid users are claiming that it helps them fall asleep instantly and soundly for the entire night. It even got featured on a few non-beauty media outlets as a cure for insomia! As someone who has struggled with sleeping problems and insomnia for over 6 years, I was really curious but also doubtful.

I decided to try a tub and see if it would be the miracle cream that everyone has claimed it would be. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed with its claims.
What it says (Taken from Lush website):

Slather on this gorgeous pale purple lotion, breathe in its sweet, comforting lavender and tonka perfume and you’ll instantly feel at ease. Glycerin, cocoa butter and almond oil work together to moisturize skin and lock in hydration to keep skin soft, supple and comfortable all day or all night long. Say hello to your new nightly ritual! Zzz…
There are two tub sizes, I bought the larger one which was approximately $20. A bit more expensive than the drugstore lotions I use, but hey, if this was to solve my chronic sleeping problems and cure my anxiety, it would be worth it.

Anyways, I agree with everyone that the smell is AMAZING. It smells like lavender with a hint of warm almond and vanilla. Smelling this definitely cheered me up and I found myself applying it apart from bedtime because it smelled that good.

I tried this over a course of a week, and looked forward to applying it because it smelled so good. It didn’t help me fall asleep instantly, or fall into a deep sleep. But, because it smelled so good, so I would inhale deeper. And deep breathing = relaxing and calming.
-Smells very amazing and comforting
-Very hydrating
-Relaxing scent
-Did not make me feel sleepy
-Did not make me fall asleep faster or sleep better
Hmm… Although disappointed that it didn’t improve my sleep, I would still give this a yay because it really does smell wonderful and happy. In the meantime, I will continue to rely on my wind-down sleep routine to help me fall and stay asleep.

Yay??

Beauty: Being by Sanctuary Launch

November 14, 2017

I am excited to share a new and affordable brand with you! Being by Sanctuary is a new brand that launched last summer in the UK, and now is in Canada exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart. I attended the press event, where we got to learn about their products and smell their four unique fragrances.

Being by Sanctuary is also sister companies with St. Tropez, the company known for their tanning products!

I would describe Beauty by Sanctuary as an edgy, fun and young brand with its target consumers being Generation Z. After interviewing many Generation Z-ers (I just made that word up LOL), they came up with a line that would match their needs and desires. These desires are to have a low and affordable price, but also to be well aware of 1) all the ingredients inside the products and 2) morally conscious – no animal testing.

They also found out that Generation Z would prefer to have a variety of different fun scents, rather than to splurge on a single expensive fragrance like some past generations.

I will now introduce the four scents! There are a variety of different products with each scent.
Salted caramel and macadamia burst: This one smelled very rich and desserty. It reminded me of the delicious salted caramel ice cream from Earnest.
Hibiscus and coconut water: This one was very fruity and berry-like, with a hint of coconut. It smelled very happy and upbeat. Yes, scents can induce feelings and actions.
Cloudberry and lychee: This scent reminded me of an Asian chewy candy that I would eat. Not hi-chew, but it comes in tubes similar to the Gummy Choco tues. If you know, please tell me because it’s bothering me a bit that I can’t remember it LOL!
Chili mango and tonka bean:  The last scent we were introduced to! It had a bit of a fruity scent with a spicy kick to it.
Shower burst: This product was pretty cool and I haven’t seen it before! So you spray it onto your skin and then it quickly foams up while cleaning your skin.

Each of the scents mentioned above have all of these products: shower burst, bubble bath, body scrub, and body mist. For now, these are the only scents and products they have but I can definitely see more products being rolled out in the future (this is a new brand after all!)

Stay tuned for more detailed product reviews! This post is just an intro to the brand 🙂

Zoella Gelato Launch

August 21, 2017

I always find it fascinating and impressive when Youtubers launch their own products. They are normal, everyday people who decided to pick up the camera one day… and now they’re famous with their own line! Why didn’t I think of that? Jk, I much prefer writing instead of videos 🙂

Anyway, Zoella is one of those people! Zoella launched her new Gelato line this summer, with products available exclusively at London Drugs. I was sent three products to try out, which I will be sharing with you today!

Zoella Gelato Shower Sauce: “Lather up with this deliciously scented Shower Sauce. Drizzle and massage into wet skin then rinse thoroughly for a squeaky-clean finish.”

I really enjoyed the shower sauce! When I first opened the package, I could smell the shower sauce right away… and I loved the light and girly smell of it. It lathered very well and my body felt very clean after using it.

Zoella Gelato Shower Shake: “Indulge in the crème de la crème of body washes. Shower Shake not only
cleanses skin, it moisturises too! Blended with extracts of Elderflower and Pomegranate to help
brighten, smooth and tone.”

I thought the packaging was super cute! The shower shake was very moisturizing, but it didn’t feel much like a body wash. It felt more like a body cream that I was attempting to use as a body wash. I didn’t feel as clean as I did with the shower sauce.

Zoella Gelato Pink Bath Wafers: “Bath time has never been so sweet. These fizzy bath wafers are enriched with Shea Butter and extracts of Elderflower and Pomegranate to help brighten, smooth and tone.”

The bath wafers are heavier and denser than your typical Lush bath bombs. I think these would make a cute birthday gift or stocking stuffer for when Christmas rolls around!

Overall, Zoella Gelato is a great addition to the shelves (London Drugs shelves, if I may be exact haha!). A lot of thought and detail has gone into the packaging and design, making it a super cute and girly treat.

You can take a look at the rest of the products here! Which ones are your favourite? I think the guinea pig w/ glasses makeup bag is adorable… if only there was a bunny one too 😉

Yay!
