The Incredibles DIY Costume – Cheap, Easy, No sewing needed

October 27, 2018

Woohoo! It’s that time of the year again – Halloween! I actually almost forgot to write a DIY post on my costume this year, but I still have a few days before Halloween to get this in!

This year, we decided on doing….. The Incredibles! In particular, Mr and Mrs Incredible because we don’t have kids.  Incredibles 2 just came out this summer, so I thought it would be quite fitting. As well, this costume was easy peasy! My soap costume last year took a long time so I’m glad this one was finished in less than a hour total.

As usual, no sewing is needed! I’m no sewing expert, so I want to show that you don’t necessarily need sewing experience to make a cheap and easy costume.

Materials:

-Orange, black, yellow, white felt (multiple of each incase of cutting malfunction)
-Red shirt X2
-Hot glue gun
-Scissors
-Black gloves X2
-Elastic fabric (or a headband that you cut into one strip)
-Black pants

Instructions (for t-shirt):

1- Cut the coloured felt into The Incredibles logo.
2- Use hot glue gun to put the pieces of felt together.
3- Glue it onto the red t-shirt.

Instructions (for eye mask):

1- Cut the black felt into the eye mask shape.
2- Cut two holes for your eyes.
3- Glue the elastic headband.

Sooooo easy right! And cheap! Each piece of felt was around 60 cents at my local Michaels. Each shirt was around $7 maybe?

I also found the perfect leggings for Elastigirl on Amazon. I would recommend ordering these because they look cooler than just black pants! They were $21.00 CAD which isn’t that expensive and came quickly with Amazon prime.

Here is a photo of all the cheap, easy, no sewing DIY costumes over the years (minus the firefighter one because we did a group Pokemon costume that year which I wrote on instead)! Boyfriend is blurred out for privacy 🙂

Introduction to LINE!

August 13, 2018

This post will be different than my usual food and beauty posts, and a bit more personal! I would like to introduce LINE characters here, as I am absolutely in love with the characters.

It all innocently started last year when the boyfriend and I were introduced by Maki… and now it’s gone into a full blown obsession between the two of us. I’d probably argue that he is more obsessed than I am currently!

Anyways, you’re probably thinking what on earth is LINE? It is a Japanese messaging app, probably equivalent to the popularity of Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger in North America. What makes LINE special is that they have developed cute characters/mascots.

The main ones are Brown (an expressionless brown bear in a relationship with Cony), Cony (a fun bunny in a relationship with Brown), Moon, James, and Sally.

All the LINE characters as of 2018!

Not many Canadians use LINE and it is definitely more popular in Asia (especially Japan, where LINE is their main messenging app). The bad thing is that there are no LINE stores in Canada, so I can’t buy any of their merchandise in person. The only LINE store in North America is in New York City, and they recently opened up a brief pop-up store in Los Angeles. So, I usually just browse longingly and follow many LINE Instagram accounts.

A great website that I have been using lately to browse LINE products is Wikibuy. Wikibuy compares prices of different websites and also shows you if there’s any current coupons. Since the prices for LINE products vary so much in North America (most LINE products that ship to North America are from ebay/personal sellers so they set their own price & shipping cost), Wikibuy helps me find the cheapest products.

Here are some cute LINE products that Wikibuy has found for me, and helped me compare from other websites:

Wikibuy comparing the prices of your desired product – I would not buy a toothbrush for $28, which is why I only window shop!!! (Mobile version)

Desktop version

Wikibuy is very responsive and simple to use. It is well developed and it also includes an option to link your Amazon Prime because shipping costs are usually different from Prime. The downside is that they are currently only offered in USD.

You can use Wikibuy to compare makeup, electronics, household items… basically anything you could think of!

Monsters Inc. Mike & Sully DIY Costume (No Sewing Necessary)

October 7, 2016

For Halloween 2015, the boyfriend and I decided to be Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc! We didn’t do anything big or special last year, just hung out at home, and gave out candy. We also decided to watch the movie while giving out candy!

sully mike diy costume monsters inc couplesAs with all my costumes, they are extremely simple to create. I can not sew, and am abysmal at arts/crafts but that doesn’t mean I can’t find ways to save money and come up with costume ideas!

Materials:

  • Hot glue gun
  • Coloured felt fabric: White, black, light blue, purple
  • 2 Hard hats
  • Monsters Inc logo- Either print one or it’s easy to draw
  • Bright green tshirt
  • Dark turquoise tshirt
  • Blue acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Packing tape (optional for logo on the hard hat)

Mike: You will need the white, black, and light blue fabric. Simply cut out the appropriate shapes for his big eye, surprised looking mouth and teeth. Then, position them on your green shirt before hot gluing the pieces on!

Sully: You will need the white, black, light blue, and purple fabric. Again, cut out the shapes for Sully’s face and horns as shown in my picture. For the purple spots, cut out irregularly shaped ovals and hot glue gun them on the back of the tshirt.

Hats: Can’t forget their safety hats! We were firefighters the year before, so we had leftover hard hats. These are really easy to find at any costume or toy store! Just paint liberally, we painted 3-4 layers before the paint was a nice solid light blue.

Then, I found a Monsters Inc logo online and printed two copies out. I then stuck them on the hard hats using tape.

If you’re going to be outdoors, I recommend laminating the logos incase it starts to rain. You can either go to Staples or simply use packing tape to laminate.

There you go! Super simple, no sewing required. This costume is also great with a friend!
