Beauty: Being by Sanctuary Launch

November 14, 2017

I am excited to share a new and affordable brand with you! Being by Sanctuary is a new brand that launched last summer in the UK, and now is in Canada exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart. I attended the press event, where we got to learn about their products and smell their four unique fragrances.

Being by Sanctuary is also sister companies with St. Tropez, the company known for their tanning products!

I would describe Beauty by Sanctuary as an edgy, fun and young brand with its target consumers being Generation Z. After interviewing many Generation Z-ers (I just made that word up LOL), they came up with a line that would match their needs and desires. These desires are to have a low and affordable price, but also to be well aware of 1) all the ingredients inside the products and 2) morally conscious – no animal testing.

They also found out that Generation Z would prefer to have a variety of different fun scents, rather than to splurge on a single expensive fragrance like some past generations.

I will now introduce the four scents! There are a variety of different products with each scent.
Salted caramel and macadamia burst: This one smelled very rich and desserty. It reminded me of the delicious salted caramel ice cream from Earnest.
Hibiscus and coconut water: This one was very fruity and berry-like, with a hint of coconut. It smelled very happy and upbeat. Yes, scents can induce feelings and actions.
Cloudberry and lychee: This scent reminded me of an Asian chewy candy that I would eat. Not hi-chew, but it comes in tubes similar to the Gummy Choco tues. If you know, please tell me because it’s bothering me a bit that I can’t remember it LOL!
Chili mango and tonka bean:  The last scent we were introduced to! It had a bit of a fruity scent with a spicy kick to it.
Shower burst: This product was pretty cool and I haven’t seen it before! So you spray it onto your skin and then it quickly foams up while cleaning your skin.

Each of the scents mentioned above have all of these products: shower burst, bubble bath, body scrub, and body mist. For now, these are the only scents and products they have but I can definitely see more products being rolled out in the future (this is a new brand after all!)

Stay tuned for more detailed product reviews! This post is just an intro to the brand 🙂

Event: Vancouver Tea Festival 2017

November 11, 2017

If you’ve been following my blog in 2015, you may remember that I attended the Vancouver Tea Festival and wrote about it here. I was invited back this year as well!

The festival this year took place at the Chinese Cultural Center and Dr. Sun Yat Sen Garden in Chinatown.

As a quick summary, the Vancouver Tea Festival brings together many different tea companies to one place. Each company has their own booth showcasing their tea. The best part of the festival is that each table gives out many tea samples so you can try their tea before deciding to purchase it or not.

Smores and I had a great afternoon learning about the different tea companies and tasting all of the teas! Here is a recap of the 2017 Vancouver Tea Festival!

Tumeric Teas: I noticed that many tea companies at the festival were featuring tumeric in their teas. Tumeric is a spice that has recently gained lots of attention for its health benefits, although it’s been used for centuries.

Tumeric Teas focused mainly in tumeric, as their name suggested. They were sampling all four of their different tumeric tea blends. We enjoyed their tea and the tumeric ginger tea would be especially great for the cold and flu season.

Tea Sparrow: Tea Sparrow was our favourite booth! They had many types of herbal, green, and black tea samples that we enjoyed. My favourite was the herbal strawberry mint, which I ended up purchasing.

Smores enjoyed their pineapple/coconut tea the most. I also sampled a cocoa tea and peppermint tea.

Justea: This booth specialized in purple leaf tea. Why is it called purple tea? Because purple tea leaves grow naturally in the tea bush due to the Anthocyanins antioxidant.

The picture above is still from Justea. They had the coolest steepers in the festival and I thought it was worthy of a photo! Once the tea is done steeping, visitors pour themselves a sample in the environmentally-friendly glass cup provided (and are able to keep after the festival!).Oollo Tea: Oollo tea focused on oolong tea, which Smores was a big fan of! They had many different types of oolong tea on sample.

Young Mountain Tea Company: Young Mountain Tea Company had a few samples featured as well!

Shaktea: I remember going to Shaktea’s cafe on Main Street three years ago, and enjoying their tea. I quite liked the colourful assortment of tea tins and herbal tea sample. They have since moved from their Main Street location to Cambie Street, which will be opening later this month.

Tsuru no Maru: We were intrigued by this table because of the pretty pink flowers and simple layout (hey, marketing works okay!). Unfortunately, we didn’t get to sample their tea because the person was busy talking to other guests.

Xiaguan Tuocha: This booth really brought me back to childhood, because my dad is a huge traditional Chinese tea lover. This booth had all of the Chinese tea ceremony supplies and the tea that my dad loved to drink!

Amoda Tea: Amoda Tea had quite a lot of samples and we both enjoyed their teas.

Whisk Premium Matcha: This booth specialized in matcha tea. I love matcha but I don’t drink/eat matcha as often as I like because of my caffeine sensitivity. The lady was quite busy with other customers so we decided to skip out on the samples here.

Well, there you have it! For more information on the annual Vancouver Tea Festival, check out their website here! They have different ticket levels depending on if you would like to attend special workshops or exclusive tea tastings at the adjacent Dr. Sun Yat Sen Garden.

Speaking of that garden, it is a true beauty! Let’s end this post with a picture of the Chinese garden 🙂

Estee Lauder Fall Preview 2017

October 4, 2017

A few weeks ago, I attended the Estee Lauder Fall 2017 preview event. There were some new products, and formula changes for some of their classic products. Read on to find out more!

The Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation is one of my favourite foundations (previous review here). This Fall, they have changed the formula slightly. It now contains 50% more water, which gives it a lighter feel yet is supposed to have the same medium/full coverage.

I tested this out over the weekend and I can’t wait to write my full thoughts on this!

Starting off, Estee Lauder is launching an impressive array of lipstick colours. They range from pinks to reds, but also some daring colours such as green and blue.

The tip of the lipsticks were also re-designed, making it easier to get a more precise line!

AERIN products were designed by Estee Lauder’s granddaughter, Aerin. I’ve always been a fan of AERIN fragrances and this was no different.

New this season are two fragrances – one for day wear and one for night wear. The day wear has a light fragrance which reminded me of summer, while the night wear had a heavier and slightly muskier fragrance.

Some new skincare launches!

New Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Transformative Thermal Ritual: The creme wraps skin in a cocoon of concentrated Black Diamond Truffle Extract and advanced deep-hydrating, plumping and contouring ingredients for a firmer look and feel.

Nutritious micro algae: This cream features three different types of algae which help to purify and balance skin. One of the types of algae included is spirulina, which has tremendous benefits to your body.

This is pretty cool – coloured mascara! It seems that Estee Lauder is really branching out into more unique colours, with the launch of their new lipstick colours as well!

The classic Advanced Night Repair, one of Estee Lauder’s best sellers! The formula was modified, and it now contains 50% more hyaluronic acid for even more intense hydration and wrinkle prevention.

The new formula also includes the patent pending, 360° Matrix Technology. It wraps the eye area in a breathable, flexible visco-elastic network that allows natural eye movement while providing cushioning support. Sounds very protective against the earth’s elements.

Now it’s time to write my reviews on some of these products, stay tuned for that!

ACI Beauty Preview Fall/Holiday 2017 (Part 2/2)

September 17, 2017

Continuing my ACI Beauty Preview for Fall/Holiday 2017, here is part 2/2!

Read part 1 to learn about the new releases from Ardell, Stila, and Korres!

There is no better way to describe CLEAN’s products other than that they smell, well, clean! Spritzing their scents make me feel like I just did laundry (yes they have a laundry sent!).

Pictured above are some products from their core collection, aka the staples! I love how they match the flavours in the back.

My favourites are the cool and warm cotton!

These are the rollerball version of their perfumes. They are a great addition to a makeup purse or bag!

The cool thing about CLEAN is that they encourage you to come up with your own unique scent by layering their different scents. I’ve tried this at the events before and there wasn’t a combination that I did not like.

As mentioned, the products above are from their core collection. However, this Warm Cashmere is one of their limited edition products and new for the fall.

I found it to be suitable for either sex. It was very reminiscent of autumn days!

This was the first time that Sekkisei was introduced at an ACI event! I had written a review previously on their White Powder Wash, which you can read here.

Sekkisei is a brand with Asian influences, as you can see with the different Asian herbs/spices and Chinese writing. My Chinese reading is limited (although fluent in speaking) but the first character says snow. Asian beauty revolves on having fair, pale white skin so I am not surprised that snow is in their name.

From left to right:
Herbal gel, facial cream wash, treatment cleansing oil, enriched emulsion, and lotion enriched. Yes, those are the official names for those products!

Last but not least, Paul & Joe! Happy to see their cat shaped lipsticks once again 🙂

New for this holiday/Christmas season are the products on the right- the makeup bag, sparkling foundation primer, and pink/blue hand creams. I love anything that sparkles so I would love to try out the primer!

There are many great releases as usual! What are you most excited to try?

ACI Beauty Preview Fall/Holiday 2017 (Part 1/2)

September 8, 2017

A couple of weeks ago, I attended the ACI Beauty Preview event for Fall/Holiday 2017. Even though it was the epitome of a hot summer’s day, we were treated to the sneak peek of some holiday/Christmas launches!

As usual, this event will be divided into two posts because I hate having long, endlessly scrolly (yes I just made that word up) posts!

Starting off, I was given some Ardell lashes to try on! I was a bit hesitant due to my glasses, but we found a pair that went very nicely with my glasses. The best part of all? It didn’t touch my lens.

This re-sparked the love affair I have with falsies and encouraged me to wear them more often, now that I know there are lashes out there that won’t interfere with glasses!
The Stila Stay All Day foundation has undergone a few changes in the past year! Last year, the packaging of the bottle was changed. This year, they have added many new shades to the line! As well, the cap contains a hidden concealer now too!

You can read my previous review about this foundation here! I quite enjoyed this foundation.
Holiday/Christmas lip sets from Stila!

Pictured are:

-Big Shots Eyeliner & Mascara duo (back, far left)
-Star Studded Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick Set of 8 (back, middle)
-Written in the Stars Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Set (back, left)
-Eye for Elegance Liquid Eyeshadow Set of 6 (front, right)
-Play It Cool Stay All Day Lipstick (front, left – there are 3 packs in various shades shown)

The new Stila one step primer! The crystal clear base in the new primer has 50% water. This gives the product a lighter, more refreshing feel than most silicone-based primers.
Moving on to Korres – two new products pictured above! The first one on the left with the smoothie is the Greek Yogurt Undereye Priming Moisturizer. The coolest part to me was how cold the applicator tip is, which helps to minimize puffy and swollen eyes in the morning.

The second product underneath the roses is the new Wild Rose Moisturizer/Primer. I got so excited about this launch that I wrote a review pretty quickly about it! You can read that review here.
Holiday/Christmas gift sets from Korres!

The gift set on the far left is the Greek Wonders Skin Kit, which contains travel sized skincare products. I always recommend getting travel sized products if you want to discover a variety of different products! This is a pretty good deal for $49 CAD considering that one full size product costs more than that.

The gift set in the back is the Total Body Indulgence, which is a 6-piece set of shower gels/body butters – there is a guava scent in this gift set which I REALLY want to smell!

Lastly, the gift set in the front is the Body Butter Delights which includes the following scents: yogurt, guava, basil-lemon, bergamont-pear, and white blossom!

Stay tuned for part 2, which features CLEAN, Sekkisei, and Paul & Joe!
