Beauty: Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow

January 9, 2018

By now, you probably know how much I love glitter! I first came across the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow at the Stila preview event, and I knew I had to try it out. Then for Christmas, I was gifted another one making it a grand total of 3 to my collection!

What it says (taken from Stila):

Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow is a long-wearing, sparkle eyeshadow with the perfect blend of pearl and glitter to leave your eyes with incredible luster and shimmer. With its uniquely lightweight, water-infused texture, it glides on effortlessly, then dries down smoothly, locking in maximum sparkle with minimal fallout for elevated eye looks.

Application: The glitter is intensely pigmented and has very beautiful shimmer. I use the application brush and gently press over my entire eye lid for more sparkle, rather than one swipe. It applies a bit wet, so I look down for a few seconds to let it dry properly and prevent creasing.

Afterwards, I apply my liquid eyeliner on top. I find that the eyeliner applies best one minute after. When it dries completely, it is harder for the eyeliner to stay on and clumps a bit.

Also, no fall out at all which is amazing! Fall out is probably one of the most common cons about glitter eye shadow.

Wear: The glitter holds up really well and is comfortable to wear. Despite it looking thick, it is lightweight and I don’t feel it at all when I’m blinking, etc.

I really love this product and it is great for fancy occasions. You get the beauty of a luminous glitter without the fall out.

Yay!

Food: Basil Garden

January 5, 2018

I’ve been running low on new food posts, so the boyfriend and I decided to look for some restaurants that I could blog about. We’ve driven by Basil Garden numerous times (if not everyday haha) and keep saying that we should go for the past year since the Yelp reviews were pretty good.

Basil Garden is located on Renfrew and Broadway, in a small strip mall where Mr. Sub is. Walking in, the decor was pretty modern and nice. Everything felt very clean and it was a lot nicer than the usual Vietnamese places we eat at.

Spring rolls, $6: The boyfriend was quite hungry that night, so we ordered some spring rolls to start. There was quite a generous amount – 4 spring rolls for $6 is a great price!

They were fresh, crunchy and delicious! We have high expectations for Vietnamese spring rolls thanks to Le Petit Saigon and these were excellent as well.

Large pho w/ rare beef and brisket, $10: At $10, the price was a bit higher than we were used to but this place is also a bit fancier. With that said, the boyfriend really enjoyed it. The broth was super clear but very flavourful.

The portion was HUGE, with lots of noodles and beef!

Pork patty & spring roll vermicelli: The pork patty was different than the usual places I go to. It was slightly sweeter and the texture was different. Pork patty usually has an even texture and consistency because it’s processed (I think? Not sure) but this one didn’t seem that processed.

Like think of a more-processed hot dog sausage compared to a breakfast sausage. But I guess this is a good thing because it’s healthier, I was just expecting this style of pork patty.

One last thing to mention is how clean their sauces are! This probably means that they clean out their sauce tubes quite often? It was pretty busy that night so I’m sure that the sauces get used a lot.

Anyways, we enjoyed our visit to Basil Garden and will be back! It’s a good option for Vietnamese food in the area. As the boyfriend says, he would come back here if he wanted something close and didn’t have any cash for Thai Son. Agreed!

Yay!

Travel: Twelve hours at Xcaret Park

January 2, 2018

Happy 2018! My first blog post of the year!

While in Mexico, the boyfriend and I wanted a relaxing vacation but also a couple days of adventure. On Trip Advisor, Xcaret Park was listed as one of the top activities and after doing some research on the park, it seemed like something that we would enjoy!

Credit: Xcaret

Xcaret Park is an eco-adventure park about 1 hour from Cancun and 15 minutes from Playa Del Carmen. When reading reviews, guests had mentioned the park is huge and I definitely have to agree.

Luckily, we got the insider scoop on the best way to maximize your time at Xcaret, which I will be sharing with you now! This is the order of activities that we did in the span of 12 hours (9am-9pm), not including a delicious lunch buffet next to their jaguar island. These activities are also all included in your admission price.

1- Paradise River: We started off with a relaxing boat ride along the river. For those who do not want to get wet or go swimming, this would be a great activity.

2- Shops/walking around: We spent about a hour following one of the paths, which had handmade souvenirs from local vendors, a fresh tortilla shop, woolmaking shop, and lots of art. Xcaret Park is extremely organized. They have different coloured marked paths so that you won’t get lost. Following the paths ensure that you reach your desired destination and that you are able to see everything.

3- Coral Reef Aquarium: We also spent some time checking out the marine life at the aquarium.

4- Jaguar Island: The jaguars are the largest cats in North America. We were able to spot 3 jaguars hanging out on the island. There is also the international buffet restaurant next to the Jaguar Island, so we enjoyed a delicious meal trying to spot the jaguars.

5- Underground river: This was the highlight of the day for me! There are natural underground rivers that run throughout the park. There are three rivers, and each of them end up at the opposite side of the park.

It was relaxing and really cool to float along the river and inside the caves. From one end to the other, it took 1 hour – which gives you an idea of how large the park is.

6- Take pictures by the coast: The most scenic part of Xcaret! Once we finished the underground river swim, we ended up by the rugged coast line. There were more restaurants, gift shops, and hammocks in this area. We spent some time taking pictures of the beautiful view here, which is a must.

7- Sea turtles & parrots: However, the path back was full of sights to see! We took pictures with parrots on our heads, walked by a beach and snorkelling area. We stumbled upon the sea turtle conservatory area. There were many types of sea turtles and babies here that would eventually be released back into the ocean.

8- Mayan village dance: After about a hour of walking back to the main area, we arrived to the Mayan Village to see the show! I quite enjoyed the cultural show which featured traditional dances and costumes

9- Dinner: At this point, we were just exhausted from all the activities. I would recommend going for a quick dinner. However, we decided to save money and buy some pastries and snacks from the gift shop instead.

10- Night show: The daily night show from 7-9 pm is a must see. The beginning performances had some fire shows, including an activity which looked like hockey except the puck was a flaming ball. Then, they had dance performances and music from different regions of Mexico. It was a great chance to see various cultures within Mexico and we really enjoyed it.

Little things:

– Organization: Xcaret is a very well organized and tidy park. Since it is a huge park, they have specially marked colour paths that you can follow to reach your destination. Following these colour paths will ensure that you make the most of your visit as you won’t be getting lost!

Photo pass – Don’t have to ask strangers to take photos, and the pictures will always have the perfect background! During the underground river swim.

-Photo pass: For an extra fee of $75/group (max 10 people), there are many photo stations around the park which you then download online. When you reach a photo station, you scan your wristband and it will snap a photo for you. This feature came in really handy for us, and we were really happy with how the photos turned out – very high quality and professional looking.

Photo pass – Don’t have to ask strangers to take photos, and the pictures will always have the perfect background! At the end of the underground river swim.

-Convenience: They really have everything thought out here. For the underground river swim, you put your belongings in a large duffle bag (no valuables such as camera, phone, wallet). Your duffle bag with your belongings then get transported to the other end of the park, ready for pickup after you finish your swim. It was so nice to have our towels and shoes ready instantly.

-Transportation: Although I was provided with media passes, they did not come with transportation. We paid $30 each for a roundtrip shuttle bus. At the end of our 12 hour day, I was SO thankful we did because we were so tired. The bus ride was about 2 hours one way, which I used to nap. The buses were also air conditioned and have washrooms.

We had a really fun and smooth day at Xcaret, thanks to the organization of the park and friendly staff. Not only was it fun, but we learned so much about Mexican culture and history too! It was such a great day and I would recommend spending a day here when you’re in the area.

Beauty: Top Beauty Products of 2017

December 30, 2017

Last year, I did a post of the top products I discovered in 2016. I thought it would be fun to share the top products from 2017 this year! As well, I love looking back and reading old posts so I can remember what I loved.

Anastasia Ultimate Glow Kit: I started off the year with the glow kit, and I still really love it although I don’t use it often. The glimmer and golds are so pretty!

Korres Wild Rose Primer/Moisturizer: The smell of this is amazing and always helps to make early mornings and long days a tad better. Not to mention that it moisturizes really well!

Pixi Endlessly Silky Eye Pen: Smudge proof, transfer proof, long lasting, rich pigment… all for under $15!!! I’m quite picky with eyeliners, but this Pixi eyeliner has won be over and left me very impressed.

Hard Candy Metal Eyes palette: For under $10, this kit is truly a bang for your buck. With the setting spray liquid, the colour payoff is rich and intense. It also includes a bonus brush and eyeliner!

The only negative thing as mentioned in the review is that it doesn’t last long by itself, which can easily be solved with primer or setting spray. I still would recommend this palette though!

Pixi Glow Tonic: A cult favourite, I finally started to use it and I noticed really great results. My pores tightened and I have had less breakouts! Definitely can see why this product is so popular – it’s worth the hype.

Mizon Snail Cream: Last but not least, my beloved snail cream! I haven’t gone a day without using it this winter. It makes my dry winter skin feel so much more comfortable. The cream instantly hydrates and absorbs quickly which gives me happy and bright skin. Using this and the Pixi Glow Tonic, I have noticed a great difference in my skin this winter.

Next month will mark my four year blogiversary. I still remember the day I wrote my first post reviewing a restaurant, and haven’t looked back since. Thank you for supporting this lil blog of mine!!! And Happy New Year!!!

Beauty: Pixi Glow Tonic

December 27, 2017

Merry late Christmas everyone! I hope you all had a great time celebrating. I received some beauty presents, so stay tuned for reviews on those!!!

—–

It’s about time I join the Pixi Glow Tonic craze! I first heard about the Pixi Glow Tonic earlier in the year but I started to regularly incorporate it into my skin routine in October. After two months of use, I think a review is needed!

What it says (Taken from website)

Exfoliating facial glow tonic™. It helps tone, firm and tighten the skin. It removes dead skin cells for healthier looking skin. For all skin types. Alcohol free.

Application: I use a bit every morning and night, before my lotion. I focus especially on my nose and cheeks area, as that is where my pores are the biggest. But I will also use it around my entire face and neck.

Over the past two months, I have noticed a difference in my skin which I think the Glow Tonic definitely plays a part in. In particular, my pores have shrunk and gotten tighter. I have had less breakouts too.

The only negative thing I would say about this is that it can be quite drying. That’s why I always follow up with a moisturizer, or else my skin would feel very tight. My Mizon snail cream is a great follow up because it absorbs quickly and leaves my skin feeling plump and hydrated!

Yay!
