The Estee Edit Lip Flip Shade Transformer

June 23, 2016

I talked about the new lip flips from the Estee Edit launch post, and now I am back to review them in detail! Out of the whole Estee Edit line, I was the most excited for the lip flips as I thought the concept was so awesome.

Who wouldn’t want to triple their lipstick collection by only having two extra shades?!
Estee Edit Lip Flip Shade Transformer ReviewOn its own, turn down is a true black, while turn up is a bright yellow. The concept is that the black, aka turn down, will darken the shade your lipstick. In contrast, turn up will brighten the shade.

I decided to be a daredevil and tried the black on its own, but trust me, that did not look good AT ALL on me. LOL. In fact, the boyfriend gave me a weird look before I proceeded to take it off right away haha! Because of that, I did not swatch the two individually as I don’t think many people would wear the shades out on their own.

As for the packaging, I found it more to be on the heavier side due to the metal casing. As well, the tube was a bit cold to the touch due to the metal.
Estee Edit Lip Flip Shade Transformer ReviewNow, here comes the fun part: the transformations! I didn’t use any matte lipsticks, because matte lipsticks obviously dry matte, which means they don’t mix or budge once they dry. I don’t see these working out well with matte lipsticks, but my collection consists mainly of cream lipsticks so it’s all good!

The original shade is MAC’s ladybug.
Estee Edit Lip Flip Shade Transformer ReviewSecondly, the original shade here is The Face Shop’s creamy matte lipstick in PK101. With turn down, it completely changed into a beautiful purple shade!

Normally, I wouldn’t buy such a plum shade – yet another reason why I liked the concept of the lip flips so much!
Estee Edit Lip Flip Shade Transformer ReviewThe third and final swatch I tested the lip flips on was Smashbox’s Be Legendary Cream lipstick in witchy. Turn down made it even more dark and gave it more of a plum shade. Meanwhile, turn up gave it more of a pink base.

—-

To apply, it is recommended that you dab your finger on the lip flips first and they slowly mixing it into the lip colour. I found it pretty easy and fast to mix the colours. I dabbed the lip flip about three times to achieve the swatched looks above.

I always apply some sort of lip balm or Vaseline before wearing lipstick. With Vaseline, I found the lip flips very comfortable to wear and I couldn’t feel any drying on my lips. Without, I felt a slight dryness but nothing super uncomfortable or drying like matte lipsticks. So, I would recommend moisturizing your lips before wearing.

Overall, I really like the lip flips and am so excited to keep wearing them! It’s so fun because I don’t know what shade I’ll end up with, AND I can keep ‘adding’ shades to my collection without taking up any storage room!

The Estee Edit line is exclusively sold at Sephora and retails for $26 CAD each. Not a bad price considering the possibilities for shades are practically endless!

The Estée Edit Launch Event

June 8, 2016

The Estée Edit is a new line launched by Estée Lauder. I would describe the Estée Edit as the edgy, spunky younger sister, while the Estée Lauder line is known for more being more classic and modest. The new line definitely targets the younger and social media based audiences, with the two spokespersons being Instafamous celebrities Kendall Jenner and Irene Kim. (If you were like me and didn’t know who Irene was, she is a Korean-American model and beauty influencer.)

I was able to spend an afternoon previewing and learning about all the new products! This post will be more of a description of the products and my first impression. Reviews of some products will follow in future posts!
EEStarting off with their Mattified Lipstick line, there are definitely some very edgy and spunky colours in the line. I love the Estée Lauder lipsticks for their creaminess and high pigmentation, and I’m happy to say that the formula is consistent here as well. Although this is supposed to be a matte finish line, the ones that I sampled weren’t super matte, which I actually prefer because I find matte lipsticks less comfortable to wear.

My favourite product in the Estée Edit line would have to be the lip flips – pictured on the right. I can’t get enough of them! Apply either with your regular lipstick and it will turn either a darker shade (if you use black) or lighter (yellow). I just love the concept and can’t wait to experiment with the lipsticks I have at home.

It’s like buying tons of new lipstick when really, you are just adding two versatile shades in your collection!
EE1Moving on, pictured above are the super pigmented liners called the Edgiest Kohl Shadow Stick and Metallishadow eyeshadow pots. The liners also come with sharpeners at the opposite tip!

The right cup features the More Than Brows brow pencil, which you could also use as an eyeliner. At the end of the event, I received a free mini makeover and Meaghan lightly used the pencil over my eyelids. So, you can tell that it is very versatile!
EE2The Skin Glowing Balm Makeup is their light coverage foundation, which is infused with pink peony, shea butter, and seed butter. It is a very hydrating foundation with a dewy finish, and best applied using your fingers.

The Barest Blush collection look super great as well! It features a metallic overspray, which I was told is more for decoration. One of my summer makeup goals is to use blush more, as I feel it is one of my weaker areas.
EE3Remember the crazy and wild colours from the beginning? These are the Barest Lip colour collection. Again, the formula was very creamy and comfortable. But I found the nude shades to be really sheer and not that pigmented.
EE4The Flash Illuminator line looks similar to the Skin Glowing Balm Makeup line, but if you swatch the two, they are pretty different. The Flash Illuminator, as the name suggests, illuminates your skin and has a bit of sparkle to it. This line is meant for highlighting or strobing your face and would complement flash photography greatly.
EE5Here are a bunch of skincare products, including the Dissolve the Drama Makeup Remover, White Mud Scrub, Light Night Eraser Eye Balm, Chlorella Algae Cleansing Bar, Pink Peony Overnight Water pack, Rescue Balm, and more! I tested out the Dissolve the Drama makeup wipes and oil, and they were highly effective in removing makeup.EE6Last but not least, here are the Barest Bronzer products, which feature the same metallic decorative spray as the blush. The Cocobalm is a tinted liquid lip balm made from coconut oil. As such, it also smells really good! I’m not a big fan of the packaging as I can foresee it being difficult to squeeze out the product as you start to run out.

To end the event, I was given a makeover by Meghan, who is a makeup artist for Estée Lauder! I wish I remembered to take a photo of my makeup, but sadly, I forgot to! Boo. Anyways, I had a great time, and expect to see some product reviews up this month! 🙂

What are your favourite products from the Estée Edit?

The Estée Edit is available exclusively at Sephora. (A heads up: their shelf is not located beside the Estee Lauder shelf so you will have to look elsewhere in the store for it.)

ACI Beauty Spring/Summer 2016 Preview

May 16, 2016

Early this month, I had the opportunity to attend the ACI Beauty Spring/Summer 2016 preview event! You may remember this event when I went for their Fall/Holiday 2015 event last August. There are some great new beauty products launching, keep reading to find out more!
ACI1Starting off with Stila, one of their most exciting new launches is the Stila Stay All Day Foundation re-launch! The packaging has been redesigned with a center dispensing dish, which makes it easier and less messy to apply. You simply pump the product, and it will dispense onto the center plate, where you can then use a sponge/brush/finger to apply the foundation. The foundation is a medium to full coverage, with a matte finish.

The second product Stila is launching is the All In One Colour Correcting Palette. Each palette is specifically designed for a certain skintone, and helps to even out redness, dark circles, etc. It comes with a small booklet as you can see above, which makes it easier to distinguish which colour goes where!
ACI3Whenever I think of Paul & Joe, I immediately think of their cute, whimsical, and detailed packaging. Also, cat lipsticks!!! This season, they are back again with the cat lipsticks in a few different shades. As well, there are also some new mini eyeshadow palettes being launched in a paper packaging.

The designs of the eyeshadow palettes are super cute, I wish I had taken a photo of the outside as well!
ACI4Although using self tanners can be a daunting and intimidating task, St. Tropez makes it really easy for you to achieve the perfect glow that you are looking for. They also recently launched a website, which helps you find the perfect St. Tropez product for you. It will ask questions such as what type of event you are wearing this tan to, how many days/time you have, how dark of a tan you are looking for, etc.
ACI5Roses! Even better, red roses! <3 Korres has just launched a wild rose line, which looks absolutely beautiful! I am excited to try the Korres Wild Rose Vitamin C Brightening Oil, which can be mixed into liquid foundation or just applied as a moisturizer. The oil also comes infused with real rose petals. So pretty!
ACI7Last but not least, Bliss! There are three new devices that Bliss is releasing this season. The first is the Bliss Sweeping Beauty powered cleaning device featured above!

The second device is a climate controlled spa-powered skin conditioning wand, which changes temperatures to properly and thoroughly moisturize your skin. You first use the warm function to open up your pores, so that your skin can thoroughly receive all the benefits of your moisturizer. After using the wand to massage the product in, you then use the cold function to close and lock up your pores!

The third device is the Achilles heel spa-powered heel smoother, which is a handheld device that you can use to exfoliate your feet!
ACI6Keep your eye out for all of these wonderful products that will be launching this season! I have a few favourites, and am excited to see them on the shelves!

Which product are you most excited for?

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows

March 22, 2016

Instagram and Youtube have been blowing up with rave reviews on ColourPop. After seeing SO many of the trusted beauty accounts I follow praising ColourPop, I decided on finally placing my own order! ColourPop is an online makeup store, most famously known for their intensely pigmented lip products (Lippiestix and ultra matte lip), as well as their super shock eyeshadows.

As you can see from my Instagram, I bought three Lippiestix and three super shock eyeshadows. To qualify for free shipping, you need to spend over $40 USD and seeing that I HATE paying for shipping, I decided to get a few more products as I’ve heard such great things about them anyway.

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows Review

Shipping

The processing took five days – I placed my order on a Sunday and it shipped out on Friday. The products arrived to the parcel center on Tuesday, so overall, it was a bit over a week.

Since I am a Canadian based beauty blog, I should mention that shipping to Canada will probably take a bit longer. Luckily, I live about 45 minutes from the USA border so I had my package shipped to a US parcel service, which entitled free US shipping. Otherwise, shipping would have costed almost an additional $20 Canadian to my house (shipping rates differ depending on exchange rate, etc).

Yes, I know you might be thinking it’s not worth it to drive down to the states. If you think it’s not worth it and you rather pay for Canadian shipping & convenience – by all means, you are welcome to. For myself personally, after thinking about the pros and cons and calculating the gas cost, it was still cheaper to drive to the border. As well, I was able to go on a weekday early afternoon so there was no border wait at all. I was in and out of the states in literally 5 minutes, LOL.

For future orders, I might get it shipped to US again if I have time to go. But if not, I’ll just have to suck it up and pay the expensive shipping >.<
ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows ReviewHere are the three shades I ordered! For the super shock eyeshadows, ColourPop has six types of finish – satin, matte, metallic, ultra-metallic, pearlized, and pressed pigment.

The dark blue metallic shade is rex. The one beside it is porter, a warm purply/burgundy with gold glitter. Finally, the one on the bottom is stereo, a reddish/burgundy with copper metallic glitter sprinkled on top.

All three shades I ordered were the metallic finish. Upon first touch of the three eyeshadows, I found them to be very bouncy and light. I also find them to be slightly damp too, but the product goes on dry. I really like the formula of the metallic finish super shock eyeshadows and thought they were very unique. I also had no trouble with fallout, which is a major WIN in my books!

Needless to say, I was VERY impressed with the pigmentation and application of all three eyeshadows. I was in love at first application, and couldn’t believe that they were only $5 USD each! What a crazy steal!

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows ReviewHere is one of the looks I created using the eyeshadows. Look how pigmented it looks, and I didn’t even use that much of the product!

For this look, I am wearing stereo all over my eyelid, and used porter just above my upper lashline to give it a pop of colour.
ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows ReviewHere is another look I created using all three super shock eyeshadows. I am also wearing ColourPop’s Lippiestix in the shade dalia. I plan on doing a separate review for the Lippiestix!

Overall, I definitely recommend the ColourPop super shock eyeshadow and I wish I ordered more. They are amazingly pigmented, and the fact that they are so affordable makes it even better. Intense pigmentation, no fallout, long wear, and for $5 USD. I’m so glad I finally tried ColourPop because their products are just amazing!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

March 16, 2016

I have been trying to use up more of my lipstick collection lately, instead of sticking with the couple I normally turn to. I actually forgot I had this Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick, until I found it in one of my makeup bags today. I thiiiiink I bought this on Black Friday, but haven’t really worn it.

The Kat Von D tattoo liner is my holy grail liner and probably the single product I use the most! This lipstick is also from Kat Von D, so naturally I had very high expectations. It is part of the everlasting liquid lipstick line.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick I love the packaging of all of the Kat Von D products, and this one is no different. The tube features a pretty floral design, and is pretty sturdy.

I am pretty sure that I purchased the sample size. I vaguely remember purchasing a lipstick sample kit from KVD, and this size looks a bit small to be the full size. Nonetheless, I find sample sizes are better for me because it always takes me so long to finish up products, which is something I am working on!

This way, I can finish the product faster and it won’t keep long in my makeup storage (which is both sanitary and better for storage!).
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid LipstickThe Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick is very pigmented. Pictured above is just one stroke of the product! When I initially tried this product, I was very shocked at how richly pigmented it was. I definitely don’t need more than one coat of this, as it looks very bright on my lips.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid LipstickAs you can tell, it is a pretty bright shade. It took some time for me to get used to, as I normally don’t wear shades this bright!

When you first apply this lipstick, it will look a bit shiny like gloss, but will dries with a smooth and matte finish within a matter of seconds.

Again, this is only with one coat, so I was quite impressed at how rich the pigmentation was!
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid LipstickHere is another picture in direct sunlight in the car. Don’t worry, I was the passenger so I was not engaging in some unsafe driving practices! Also, the sun and my hair cast a shadow on the right side of my face (left on the screen). I just wanted to point that out in case anyone thought I had bad photo shopping skills LOL.

Overall, I really like the matte finish and rich pigmentation of this lipstick. It is definitely long lasting as well. Even after drinking from my water bottle and having some snacks, the lipstick did not really smudge or come off. Very impressive!

The only thing I would note is that, as in a lot of cases with matte lipsticks, is that it can be a bit drying. So, make sure your lips are properly moisturized and hydrated before wearing this lipstick, or any matte lipsticks in general! I ended up dabbing a tiny bit of Vaseline after a hour as I felt my lips beginning to dry out a bit.

Yay!
