TAG: Boyfriend describes my makeup products

August 8, 2016

I am very happy that I have a boyfriend who willingly goes to, and suggests, that we go to Sephora together! When we first started dating a few years ago, he had absolutely NO clue what type of makeup products there were. In fact, I remember him asking me, ‘What is a Sephora?’ – how far he has gotten!

Even though he now knows what ‘a Sephora’ is now and has a decent amount of makeup knowledge, I thought this would be a fun tag to do! I got this idea from Celina over at The Celution, you can see her post here.
tagFor this tag, I chose ten products that he is supposed to describe what the purpose is! Let’s get this post started!
tag1Josie Maran coconut watercolour cheek gelee: “Cheek geleeeeeeh…..? Gelleeeeeeeh? I’m going to say blush for your cheeks.”

Estee Lauder BB creme: “BB… I don’t remember what BB stands for… it’s like a… smooths out lines or something.”
tag2Urban Decay makeup setting spray: “Setting spray… is this like primer? It helps the makeup settle and not come off.”

Estee Lauder cheek/lip ball: “Some kind of lip colouring? Lip liner? I dunno.”
tag3Dolly Wink liquid eyeliner: “Eyeliner. It’s used to line your eyes to make your eyes look bigger.”

Beauty blender: “It’s used to blend your foundation. I don’t know how you use it. Just rub it. Rub it all over your face.”
tag4Stila stay all day 10-1 illuminating beauty balm: “Uhh… bronzer? It gives you that dewy effect. Dewy means shiny looking.”

Estee Edit pore vanishing stick: “Pore vanishing stick? It’s the uh.. pore minimizer. It fills in your pores so that your foundation will not look like it’s full of holes.”
tag5Maybelline mineral powder: “Isn’t this foundation? This is the dry powder, I don’t know. What’s the difference between wet and dry again… uh… the dry foundation sits on the surface more and is for oily skin.”

essence lip liner: “Lip liner. It’s used to define your lips.”

That’s it! Some of his responses really had me cracking up, like the Beauty Blender and Stila illuminating balm! Special thanks to the boyfriend for being a good sport and making this post possible! Perhaps I should do a part two because it was a lot of fun, and I do have a lot more makeup that he could attempt to describe =P

I encourage others to try this post out as well! Be sure to link me if you end up doing it 🙂

Introduction to essence cosmetics

July 31, 2016

I’ve been hearing such great things about essence cosmetics, and decided that it was finally time that I tried some of their products myself. essence cosmetics (Not a typo, the ‘e’ is a lowercase) prides itself on quality makeup products, at extremely affordable prices. They are a German brand that launched in the US in 2008, reaching Canadian shelves in 2012.

Today, I’ll be talking about the essence products that I purchased recently! I’ve come to really like the brand and can definitely see myself trying other products in the upcoming months.
Essence Cosmetics Lipstick Liplineressence lipliner ($1.99 CAD): The lipliners were the first thing I tried from essence. For $2, I definitely think they are worth it and they do last a good amount of time (3+ hours without eating/touching). I love that they are really pigmented, and glide on your lips really easily. I really wish they had more than four shades!

essence long lasting lipstick ($2.99 CAD): I already have way more lipstick than I need, but I was really curious as to how this one was. So, I went out of my comfort zone and bought a colour I don’t normally wear- a bright, coral pink! The lipstick is very moisturizing, and creamy. I find that this shade goes on a bit clear, so I normally go over it 4 times to get the shade it actually is.

essence eyebrow designer ($1.99 CAD): I was looking for a new brow pencil to try, and didn’t want to splurge so it was the perfect opportunity to buy the eyebrow designer! I was really impressed with this. Just like the lipliners, the brow pencil glided on really easily, and was very pigmented. I was out for 12 hours, and this did not smudge one bit. However, I took a nap with this on once, and it did smudge off a bit – woke up with less eyebrows, haha!! essenceCan you believe I only spent a total of $12 CAD for all FOUR of these products?! In the picture above, I am wearing one of the lip liners and the coral lipstick. On my computer screen, the lipstick looks a bit darker, probably due to the screen resolution and brightness settings.

Anyways, my first impression with essence is that I absolutely LOVE their products! As a beauty lover who is also a student with no job right now, I love that I can buy makeup products without feeling guilty. If you haven’t tried essence, I highly suggest you go to your local Shoppers Drug Mart and try some now! You won’t be disappointed.

KORRES Wild Rose Brightening Oil

July 7, 2016

Once in awhile, I fall irrevocably in love with products that I just can’t get enough of. I have been using the KORRES Wild Rose Brightening Oil for about two months now, and I absolutely LOVE it. I’ve heard of KORRES before, but this was my first time trying their product.

KORRES was founded by a Greek pharmacist and chemical engineer, who wanted to capture the essence of Greek’s ancient herbs and culture into their products. The Wild Rose Brightening Oil is a special, limited edition release for KORRES’ 20th Anniversary. The packaging on this bottle is different from their typical packaging, to commemorate their twenty years.
Korres Wild Rose Oil PackagingThis product is jam packed with amazing ingredients to brighten your complexion. It contains Super C, which is a stabilized superwoman version of vitamin C. Super C increases your skin’s absorption of vitamin C by 1000% percent! No, that is not a typo with an extra 0 – it really is 1000%! In addition, the oil also contains wild rose oil which is packed with vitamin A, and essential fatty acids to repair fine lines and discolouration.

Korres Wild Rose Petals OilThe oil also contains real wild rose petals, as you can see in this closeup. There is a very strong rose fragrant, which makes me feel very elegant when I put this on.

Korres Wild Rose DropperThe oil is dispensed in a dropper. I use this product as my moisturizer in the morning and night, and I find that 4-5 drops is sufficient enough for my skin to feel plump and supple. Since using this product, I’ve noticed a tremendous difference in my skin. My skin feels more plump, and supple. It looks really radiant as well!

To step it up a notch, I’ve even been incorporating this into my liquid foundation and OH MY GOODNESS. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I put my liquid foundation on the top of my hand, and drop two drops, mixing it into the foundation. It feels very oily and slippery, but it doesn’t add any heaviness to my foundation. The oil makes my skin look very dewy, smooth, and bright. Meanwhile, the lasting power of my foundation is not compromised! So great!

This oil has worked so well for my skin, that I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about it. It is definitely an investment at a suggested retail price of $75 CAD, but I am gladly willing to purchase this product once I run out because it works really well with my skin. I am trying not to use it so much now so that I can ‘save’ it – is that weird? LOL.

This product is available at Shopper’s Drug Mart!

GIVEAWAY: Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil

June 15, 2016

I am back with my second Palmer’s review! Last year, I talked about their new richly moisturizing cocoa butter line. You can read the review here if you missed it!

Today, I’ll be talking about Palmer’s cocoa butter skin therapy line AND giving away the products to THREE lucky readers! Keep reading for the giveaway details!

Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil
Palmer’s cocoa butter skin therapy line is a gentle, simple and affordable line suitable for a wide range of skin types. I have been really loving and incorporating oil cleansers a new moisturizers into my routine lately. I find that my skin gets dehydrated pretty fast, so using an oil cleanser is richer.

Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil

The cleansing oil is a very gentle cleanser. I found it did an okay job in removing an entire face of long lasting powerful makeup, as it didn’t completely clean everything off the first round.

However, I do find that most drugstore products either need to be used more than once when wearing an entire face of makeup (my primers are super powerful) OR they are over drying. So, for the price of the cleansing oil, it does a good job.

I also really liked the scent of the cleansing oil! It comes in a rose hip fragrance and I am a sucker for floral scents.

Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil

Moving on to the skin therapy oil, this is a moisturizer to be used after cleansing. As I’ve mentioned before, my skin has been pretty dry lately and I’ve found that many of the creams I’ve used are not doing the trick.

I found this oil to be moisturizing, but not as much as I needed it to be. Two months ago, this would have been great but it’s frustrating how my skin type is constantly changing. Since last May, my skin type has gone through the ENTIRE spectrum so certain products that I loved in the past do not work as well now. I’m hoping this is only temporary and I’ll go back to my ‘normal’ skin type which is oily! I am also taking many steps to make my skin less dry 🙂

All in all, I enjoyed using the two new Palmer’s products and think they are great for their super affordable price range.

Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil

The Estée Edit Launch Event

June 8, 2016

The EstĂ©e Edit is a new line launched by EstĂ©e Lauder. I would describe the EstĂ©e Edit as the edgy, spunky younger sister, while the EstĂ©e Lauder line is known for more being more classic and modest. The new line definitely targets the younger and social media based audiences, with the two spokespersons being Instafamous celebrities Kendall Jenner and Irene Kim. (If you were like me and didn’t know who Irene was, she is a Korean-American model and beauty influencer.)

I was able to spend an afternoon previewing and learning about all the new products! This post will be more of a description of the products and my first impression. Reviews of some products will follow in future posts!
EEStarting off with their Mattified Lipstick line, there are definitely some very edgy and spunky colours in the line. I love the EstĂ©e Lauder lipsticks for their creaminess and high pigmentation, and I’m happy to say that the formula is consistent here as well. Although this is supposed to be a matte finish line, the ones that I sampled weren’t super matte, which I actually prefer because I find matte lipsticks less comfortable to wear.

My favourite product in the EstĂ©e Edit line would have to be the lip flips – pictured on the right. I can’t get enough of them! Apply either with your regular lipstick and it will turn either a darker shade (if you use black) or lighter (yellow). I just love the concept and can’t wait to experiment with the lipsticks I have at home.

It’s like buying tons of new lipstick when really, you are just adding two versatile shades in your collection!
EE1Moving on, pictured above are the super pigmented liners called the Edgiest Kohl Shadow Stick and Metallishadow eyeshadow pots. The liners also come with sharpeners at the opposite tip!

The right cup features the More Than Brows brow pencil, which you could also use as an eyeliner. At the end of the event, I received a free mini makeover and Meaghan lightly used the pencil over my eyelids. So, you can tell that it is very versatile!
EE2The Skin Glowing Balm Makeup is their light coverage foundation, which is infused with pink peony, shea butter, and seed butter. It is a very hydrating foundation with a dewy finish, and best applied using your fingers.

The Barest Blush collection look super great as well! It features a metallic overspray, which I was told is more for decoration. One of my summer makeup goals is to use blush more, as I feel it is one of my weaker areas.
EE3Remember the crazy and wild colours from the beginning? These are the Barest Lip colour collection. Again, the formula was very creamy and comfortable. But I found the nude shades to be really sheer and not that pigmented.
EE4The Flash Illuminator line looks similar to the Skin Glowing Balm Makeup line, but if you swatch the two, they are pretty different. The Flash Illuminator, as the name suggests, illuminates your skin and has a bit of sparkle to it. This line is meant for highlighting or strobing your face and would complement flash photography greatly.
EE5Here are a bunch of skincare products, including the Dissolve the Drama Makeup Remover, White Mud Scrub, Light Night Eraser Eye Balm, Chlorella Algae Cleansing Bar, Pink Peony Overnight Water pack, Rescue Balm, and more! I tested out the Dissolve the Drama makeup wipes and oil, and they were highly effective in removing makeup.EE6Last but not least, here are the Barest Bronzer products, which feature the same metallic decorative spray as the blush. The Cocobalm is a tinted liquid lip balm made from coconut oil. As such, it also smells really good! I’m not a big fan of the packaging as I can foresee it being difficult to squeeze out the product as you start to run out.

A photo posted by Curiously Carmen (@curiouslycarmen) on May 27, 2016 at 3:46pm PDT

To end the event, I was given a makeover by Meghan, who is a makeup artist for Estée Lauder! I wish I remembered to take a photo of my makeup, but sadly, I forgot to! Boo. Anyways, I had a great time, and expect to see some product reviews up this month! 🙂

What are your favourite products from the Estée Edit?

The Estée Edit is available exclusively at Sephora. (A heads up: their shelf is not located beside the Estee Lauder shelf so you will have to look elsewhere in the store for it.)

Show your Estée Edit looks using #TheEsteeEdit and/or #beautyattitudes!

Carmen
