Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

March 16, 2016

I have been trying to use up more of my lipstick collection lately, instead of sticking with the couple I normally turn to. I actually forgot I had this Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick, until I found it in one of my makeup bags today. I thiiiiink I bought this on Black Friday, but haven’t really worn it.

The Kat Von D tattoo liner is my holy grail liner and probably the single product I use the most! This lipstick is also from Kat Von D, so naturally I had very high expectations. It is part of the everlasting liquid lipstick line.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick I love the packaging of all of the Kat Von D products, and this one is no different. The tube features a pretty floral design, and is pretty sturdy.

I am pretty sure that I purchased the sample size. I vaguely remember purchasing a lipstick sample kit from KVD, and this size looks a bit small to be the full size. Nonetheless, I find sample sizes are better for me because it always takes me so long to finish up products, which is something I am working on!

This way, I can finish the product faster and it won’t keep long in my makeup storage (which is both sanitary and better for storage!).
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid LipstickThe Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick is very pigmented. Pictured above is just one stroke of the product! When I initially tried this product, I was very shocked at how richly pigmented it was. I definitely don’t need more than one coat of this, as it looks very bright on my lips.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid LipstickAs you can tell, it is a pretty bright shade. It took some time for me to get used to, as I normally don’t wear shades this bright!

When you first apply this lipstick, it will look a bit shiny like gloss, but will dries with a smooth and matte finish within a matter of seconds.

Again, this is only with one coat, so I was quite impressed at how rich the pigmentation was!
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid LipstickHere is another picture in direct sunlight in the car. Don’t worry, I was the passenger so I was not engaging in some unsafe driving practices! Also, the sun and my hair cast a shadow on the right side of my face (left on the screen). I just wanted to point that out in case anyone thought I had bad photo shopping skills LOL.

Overall, I really like the matte finish and rich pigmentation of this lipstick. It is definitely long lasting as well. Even after drinking from my water bottle and having some snacks, the lipstick did not really smudge or come off. Very impressive!

The only thing I would note is that, as in a lot of cases with matte lipsticks, is that it can be a bit drying. So, make sure your lips are properly moisturized and hydrated before wearing this lipstick, or any matte lipsticks in general! I ended up dabbing a tiny bit of Vaseline after a hour as I felt my lips beginning to dry out a bit.

Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep Lotion

March 13, 2016

We’ve all heard of getting enough beauty sleep, so that your skin will be radiant, glowing, and eye bag-free! But what if you are just too busy or not sleeping well enough to reach that goal?

For myself, having a good night’s sleep is something I’ve always struggled with and continue to do so. Even though I ‘sleep’ a decent amount of hours, I am constantly waking up throughout the night or plagued with nightmares so sometimes I am just exhausted when I wake up in the morning. It takes a toll on my body and my skin 🙁

Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep LotionVichy’s Idealia Skin Sleep targets skin while you are sleeping, and helps to restore your skin so that it looks healthy even if you didn’t have a good night’s sleep!

The powerful synergy of active ingredients created in the Vichy laboratories makes for a product that is capable of stimulating all of skin’s deep sleep mechanisms to recreate and optimize their repairing effects. The formula also includes caffeine to improve micro-circulation.

Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep LotionThe jar itself is pretty sturdy, and comes with a slightly reflective lid. It is a pretty good size to bring with you on vacation or to just leave at home. One thing I noticed immediately after opening the jar was how great this smelled! It had a very feminine scent, and reminded me of fresh flowers.

I looked forward to putting this on my skin every night because I loved how great it smelled! Sometimes, I’ll also use this as a morning moisturizer as I love the smell of it so much 🙂
Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep LotionI would say that the texture of the cream is more of a gel based. It is also more on the light side and wasn’t that thick or heavy.

As we go into Spring & Summer now, my skin is finally going back to its normal state – aka oily/combination. I only have to use a little bit for my skin to feel moisturized, but I really think it depends on YOUR skin type.

If you have dry skin, I would recommend using a bit more. When I wake up, my face feels plump and moisturized! My skin really does look more ‘energetic’ and less dull – I have the caffeine in the lotion to thank for that.

Overall, I do like the Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep and find it a decent moisturizer. Since it is not too thick but does a great job at moisturizing, I would say that it is probably suitable for most skin types. So far, I am really loving Vichy’s skincare line and have nothing but great words to say about their great quality products!

I also started trying out the new Vichy Aqua Sorbet body lotion, and have been LOVING that as much as I have been with the other Vichy products. Keep your eyes peeled on a review for that!

Samsoonie Noodle & Rice

March 10, 2016

A few months ago, I was looking up different Korean restaurants around Metro Vancouver to eat at. I came across Samsoonie Noodle & Rice in Richmond, and it had pretty good reviews so the boyfriend and I went to try it one weekday evening!
Samsoonie Restaurant Richmond VancouverI would say that Samsoonie is pretty hard to find if you’re not looking for it. It’s tucked away in a plaza, the last store hidden in the corner. We ended up driving past the whole plaza and found it when we drove around it for a second time.

It wasn’t too busy when we went there. Seating was comfortable and spacious.  Considering that there was only one server working that night, service wasn’t too slow.
Samsoonie Restaurant Richmond VancouverBanchan, free: Samsoonie only gave us two appetizer dishes, which is fine because we normally don’t finish everything anyways. Normally, places give four places but I’ve been to Korean restaurants that give up to 6!
Samsoonie Restaurant Richmond VancouverSoft tofu hot pot, $8.99: My go to dish at Korean restaurants is the sundunbu, or tofu hot pot with choice of meat. This hot pot came with an average amount of seafood but a lot of soft tofu! I was so stuffed at the end of this meal, I didn’t even finish the rice!

I found that the soup was slightly bland compared to other places. It wasn’t too flavourful or spicy and didn’t have much depth. It wasn’t entirely terrible though, and I still felt satisfied after eating it.
Samsoonie Restaurant Richmond VancouverBeef soft tofu hot pot, $8.99: I didn’t take a picture when it arrived because it looked the same as mine. Again, the soup broth wasn’t super flavourful but the boyfriend still enjoyed it.

There wasn’t much beef to the pot, but the beef itself was really soft and flavourful. It was the boyfriend’s favourite part of the dish, even if there wasn’t a large amount of it.
Samsoonie Restaurant Richmond VancouverSeafood pancake, small, $9.55: The boyfriend wanted the large pancake but I knew that we would not be able to finish it. It would have just been a repeat of House of Tofu Soup, so I suggested we order the small.

The seafood pancake was delicious! It was nice and crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. There was an average amount of seafood inside, but it was stuffed with leeks.

The spoon is there for comparison. It was the perfect size for us, the large would have been too much and we would have had to end up packing it up.

Overall, Samsoonie is a pretty decent restaurant but not one that I would crave again. I wish that the broth would have been more flavourful and less watery, but service was really friendly and seating was comfortable.

There are so many Korean options to choose from in Vancouver, so the food has to be super delicious to be able to compete with each other. I would prefer to go to Jong Ga or House of Tofu Soup, both in Korea Town.

Coast Restaurant

March 6, 2016

Note: I wrote this review a year ago, last March. I came back here in May 2015 and didn’t really have a good experience, so I hesitated to put this review up. The service was really slow and un-attentive, while the food didn’t taste as good as the review I have written here below.

——

Back when I used to work in downtown, I had the pleasure of going to Coast for lunch. It was my second time here, and I suggested this place because I had a wonderful experience the first time I went. From the atmosphere to service to food, everything was exceptionally done (the second time I came which is what the review is based on, the third time was not good).

Originally, my cousin and I had plans to eat at Black & Blue for lunch, and I decided to read up on the menu before we went since I had a limited lunch break. I was a bit shocked at how abysmal the Zomato ratings were for that restaurant – I thought it was a good restaurant!

Since the Glowbal Group restaurants aren’t particularly cheap, we decided to be safe and go back to Coast, since it was good the last time we went. I was able to make a last minute reservation online without any problems.

IMG_1908.JPGThe circular oyster bar in the middle of the restaurant. I love the interior and ambiance of Coast. Some of the seating is a bit squishy and uncomfortable, especially during peak hours. You could be sitting almost shoulder to shoulder with the next table.
IMG_1904.JPGSorry, I forgot what drink this was but it was one of their non-alcoholic cocktails. I tried to read their menu online, but none of the drinks there seemed to ring a bell so perhaps the menu changed.

I thought it was really refreshing, and wasn’t too sweet but had some strawberry pulp in it. If I was going to be picky, I would have liked it with less ice because I found that 1/2 the drink was ice.
IMG_1905.JPGMy cousin and I decided to split all of our lunch items. We both weren’t that hungry since we had some light snacks before meeting up, so decided to split some items.

You can’t go to Coast without ordering their seafood.

First up on the left, was the spicy ahi tuna roll. For $12.95, it is a bit overpriced considering a lot of Japanese restaurants can serve this for half the price, but there is no denying that the quality was definitely there. The tuna was extremely fresh and melted in your mouth. It came flavoured with a mouth watering sesame yuzu sauce, and a hint of spice. There were small crunchy flakes on top which topped the cherry off in an amazing roll.
IMG_1907.JPGOn the right, were the fish and chip cones. It came with cod tempura, greens, fresh tobiko, and rice wrapped in some sort of soy paper (???). Again, everything tasted delightfully fresh and the tempura was perfectly crunchy. I loved biting into the crunchy tobiko as well, which popped with flavour! The rice bed did a good job in filling me up as well.
IMG_1906.JPGOur last dish was the smoked salmon flatbread. Give me almost anything with smoked salmon and arugula, and I will eat it. Smoked salmon and arugula is probably one of my favourite combinations of food.

The flatbread was thicker than I expected, I was expecting some sort of thin crust pizza-variation for some reason.

I came back here last May (see note above), and ordered this as well. Unfortunately, it was not as good as the flatbread was drenched in so much mayo that it we couldn’t taste anything else. This place isn’t as consistent as it used to be, so I’m unsure if I would come back especially since it’s not cheap dining.

Would have been a yay! but because of the second experience, it is a meh…

Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipstick

March 4, 2016

Fun fact- my mom is a competitive ballroom dancer, which means she has a big makeup collection for her performances! She usually wears drugstore makeup and doesn’t like to splurge on makeup products, but she was looking for a very high grade and long lasting full coverage foundation for her performances.

This was already 5+ years ago, but the lady at Sephora recommended a Smashbox foundation, which was my first introduction to Smashbox. Being the curious teenager I was, I decided to try it as well. Unfortunately, we both did not like the foundation at all! It was very thick, oily, and uncomfortable. I hope they have since improved their formula!

Since then, I tried a sample of one of the Smashbox primers (forgot which it was) and it made me break out. As you can see, my experience with Smashbox hasn’t been positive so I haven’t really tried any of their other products for a long time, until now! Hopefully, their lip products would be better for me than their face products???
Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipstick WitchyI bought this lipstick ‘somewhat’ impulsively. I say ‘somewhat’ because I was looking for a dark, deep burgundy lipstick for awhile now although I didn’t know which brand I wanted. I went to Sephora one weekend and after looking around for awhile with no luck, I asked one of the girls there if they carried a lipstick similar to the Too Faced melted in berry red.

(I would have just bought the Too Faced liquid lipstick, but had a bad experience and ended up returning it. I know, I am probably one of the only people who don’t like the melted lipstick line! I wish it turned out for me because their shades are gorgeous.)

The girl suggested the Smashbox Be Legendary line in the shade witchy. I didn’t want to keep looking anymore, and when she swatched it for me, it was the definitely the perfect vampy shade I was looking for!

Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipstick Witchy

The Smashbox Be Legendary line is available in both matte and creamy shades. As you can see from the swatch, witchy is part of the cream line. I honestly didn’t have a preference for matte or creamy, I just really wanted a dark and vampy shade!

As advertised, this lipstick is pretty creamy, smooth and moisturizing. It is also nicely pigmented. My favourite part of this lipstick is how smooth and non-drying it was.

However, I did find that the lipstick did apply unevenly. You can slightly see on the swatch that the shade is a bit uneven. You can’t really see the unevenness in real life or in pictures though, unless you look really carefully. I also found that there were small ‘specks’ of colour when applying.

I fixed this by dabbing the specks off with a napkin or by using more product to cover it up.

Overall, I think this lipstick is alright. I don’t think I would repurchase this as there are cheaper options out there, but I don’t hate it either. I really love the shade and how creamy it is though!
