BVSpa Product Review

May 8, 2016

Bon Vital is a company used primarily by massage therapists, professional spas and salons. However, Bon Vital has just launched their BVSpa by Bon Vital line, which includes spa quality products for consumers to use at home! I recently had the chance to test out a few of their products, and here is what I thought!
BV Spa Bon VitalThe BVSpa products I received were the sugar salt, salt scrub, body lotion, and body butter! I was quite excited to try these products out because they smelled great, even when I just opened the box! As well, pink is one of my favourite colours so that is always a plus. 😉

I will now be reviewing each product in further detail!
BV Spa Bon VitalThe first product I tried was the BVSpa salt scrub, in pomegranate and acai berry. The first thing I noticed was how sweet and fruity it smelled! It reminded me of a fruit candy.

The salt scrub is gentle enough to use everyday. After using this, I could definitely see myself using this daily as it is not too rough or harsh on your skin. I found that the exfoliating salt crystals would melt after cleaning, and would turn into more of a soap. My favourite part of the salt scrub was definitely the fun and fruity scent.
BV Spa Bon VitalWhen I first saw the two scrubs, I was pretty intrigued at what the difference would be as they seemed pretty similar as exfoliants. The sugar scrub came in pink grapefruit, which had a pleasant and strong scent to it!

Compared to the salt scrub, the sugar scrub was noticeably more coarser. I found that both did a great job in exfoliating my skin. My skin felt really smooth, and both left a nice scent on my skin afterwards.
BV Spa Bon VitalAfter using the salt scrub, I followed up with the body butter as they both have the same scent. I really liked the body butter as well! The texture was pretty thick, but fluffy if that makes sense? It reminds me of when we make Asian fluffy angel cake at home, and we have to mix the egg white mixture until it’s fluffy. Sorry, I’m not much of a baker so my description is really bad!

It wasn’t sticky at all and actually felt light on my skin. As well, I liked how fast the body butter absorbed into my skin, leaving no residue.
BV Spa Bon VitalMoving on to the final product! The body lotion came in a sturdy, dispensable pump and has the same grapefruit scent as the sugar scrub.

Again, I liked how light and fast absorbing the body lotion was. It wasn’t thick, which made it faster to apply than the body butter. This product would be great to use if you’re in a rush!
BV Spa Bon VitalHere is a photo of all four swatches, so you can get an idea of the texture. You can definitely see the difference in thickness between the body butter and the body lotion! As for the scrubs, the sugar scrub was coarser, which you can kind of tell in the photo.

Overall, I really enjoyed the BVSpa products. I love the fresh scents, how smooth the scrubs leave my skin, and how quick the lotion absorbs! You can find these BVSpa products at Shoppers Drug Mart for $11.99 each, which is really affordable!

Ten Beauty Facts About Me!

April 18, 2016

Originally, I was thinking of writing this in my “about” page, but thought why not create a post on it instead, then link this post? I noticed that although I have tossed around a few beauty facts here and there about myself, there wasn’t a central place where I stored them. If you’re new to reading my blog and reviews (Hi there! welcome to my blog!), then I think this post will help you decipher whether the products are for you or not.

For example, some products may work wonders for dry skin, but not so well on oily skin! By knowing some beauty facts about me, I think it would help you formulate your own opinion or decision if you want to try out some products that I mentioned.

1) I started to get into makeup somewhere between 14/15 years old.

A bit embarassing... but here is fifteen year old me
A bit embarassing… but here is fifteen year old me

I’ve always been surrounded by makeup though… my mom has a pretty big collection. But I would say I started experimenting and buying my own products around that age =)

2) My skin type is oily/combination. I am prone to minor breakouts.

unnamed (2)

Yep, I have oily skin, but some days are better than others! During puberty, I broke out often but it has diminished significantly, which I am so glad for… I thought it would never end. I know that people say eating junk food or fried food doesn’t cause breakouts, but I noticed that whenever I have fried foods, I will be greeted with a pimple the next day =(

3) I do not wear foundation on a daily basis.

SONY DSC

I usually don’t wear foundation when going to work or school. I’m usually in a rush getting ready, plus I like to let my skin breathe. If I did wear foundation, I save that for the weekends or if I’m going out somewhere!

4) My daily makeup consists of only eyeliner & doing my eyebrows.

photo 2 (8)I wear eyeliner every single day, and I love it! My daily look is a winged liquid eyeliner. If I don’t wing out my eyeliner, it feels weird to me! Each day, I alternate between my Holy Grail, the amazing Kat Von D tattoo liner  or the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner.

My eyebrows these days consist of the ELF Eyebrow Kit and Anastasia Beverly Hills brow gel (which I have get to review but featured briefly in my Valentines Day post!)

5) I wash my hair everyday.

Bleh. You know how it’s recommended that you don’t wash your hair everyday? NOPE! I’m not sure if I’m just particularly sensitive to that heavy, oily hair feeling… but I hate it! I wash my hair every single day because I can’t stand that oily hair feeling, not to mention it doesn’t look good either (unless you tie it up in a cute bun).

I’m not sure if I my hair type is more oily than normal, or if I just can’t stand the feeling of dirty hair.

6) I moisturize my skin twice a day.

photo 3

I alternate different facial creams. Lately, I’ve been using my two Estee Lauder creams but I forget their names. I’ll probably do a review on them sometime, as I’ve been using them for the past two months and really like it!

I will always go back to The Body Shop’s mattifying seaweed day cream though! It works really well on my skin and feels light weight =)

7) I rotate many different types of facial cleansers and moisturizers.
photo 2 (9)
I guess this is related to number 6! I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but I noticed that if I use the same continuous product for awhile, it starts to lose its effect. That’s why I normally rotate my different facial cleansers and moisturizers, because I don’t want my skin to build a tolerance up and have the product be not effective.

It’s happened to my Body Shop seaweed mattifying day cream, which is why I started to incorporate other moisturizers. I also found that my Lush herbalism cleanser wasn’t doing an amazing job like it used to, so I stopped using it for a few weeks and went back to it!

8) Lipstick shades that look best on my skin are darker or plum shades. You don’t want to see me with bright pink lipstick!
unnamed (3)

You really do not want to see me with bright pink lipstick shades, it really does not suit my skin tone! It really sucks because I see all these wonderful bright shades on the shelves that I would love to wear, but when I actually wear the shade – that’s a whole different story. With the summertime coming up, I compensate by just wearing brighter nail polishes which is better than nothing =)

I like dark red or plum shades. I’ve been told that I look good in red, whether it’s lipstick or clothing pieces!

9) For foundations, I use medium shades.

20140202-012006.jpg

I’m using the term “medium” loosely because I know it depends on what product you’re using, and what company =) As an industry standard, I know that people usually just share their MAC foundation shade, but I don’t have any of their foundations! There’s just too many products out there, I’ll get to their foundation eventually =)

To give you somewhat of an idea, I am a medium 5.0 for Urban Decay.

10) My biggest beauty wish would be to naturally have clear skin.

Yep. Having natural nice, clear, soft, porcelain skin would be my biggest beauty wish! It’s easy to achieve a pore less and smooth makeup look, but it would be amazing to be blessed with clear and healthy skin no matter what your environment is! A girl can dream….

I would love to hear some beauty facts about you as well! Let me know in the comments below =)

Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet

March 26, 2016

One great thing about beauty blogging is that I get the opportunity to try products that I otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to try! One of my favourite skincare brands I discovered through beauty blogging is Vichy. I’ve done a couple of reviews on Vichy products already, which I have really enjoyed and found worked with my skin.

Time and time again, Vichy has proved to be a quality skincare brand and I would not hesitate to recommend it to someone who is looking for a new line to try out. I am back with another Vichy review, this time with the new Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet.
Vichy Ideal Body Aqua SorbetUnlike the other Vichy products I have tried so far, the Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet is a body moisturizer. It is meant to apply liberally after a shower for an instant cool and refreshing moisturizing session.

One thing I REALLY love about this body lotion is the smell. I would describe the scent as somewhat peachy and happy.
Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet

I can’t wait to use this as summer approaches. Upon application, my skin feels very cool and light due to its ultra-cooling effect. This will be a perfect temporary relief during heat waves because I don’t have AC in my house!

This lotion is pretty light weight and is more on the gel side, as far as texture goes. It is not thick at all but it does a great job in moisturizing and making you smell really nice.

The key ingredients of the Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet are Gingko Biloba (sourced from the Gingko tree found only in China), hyaluronic acid, and Vichy mineralizing water (which is also found in the review I did of the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Moisturizer).

Overall, the Vichy Idealia Body Aqua Sorbet (Phew, what a long name haha) has easily become one of my favourite body moisturizers and I will only use it more once the warmer weather approaches. It does a great job at moisturizing your skin without feeling heavy, and it smells amazing.

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows

March 22, 2016

Instagram and Youtube have been blowing up with rave reviews on ColourPop. After seeing SO many of the trusted beauty accounts I follow praising ColourPop, I decided on finally placing my own order! ColourPop is an online makeup store, most famously known for their intensely pigmented lip products (Lippiestix and ultra matte lip), as well as their super shock eyeshadows.

As you can see from my Instagram, I bought three Lippiestix and three super shock eyeshadows. To qualify for free shipping, you need to spend over $40 USD and seeing that I HATE paying for shipping, I decided to get a few more products as I’ve heard such great things about them anyway.

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows Review

Shipping

The processing took five days – I placed my order on a Sunday and it shipped out on Friday. The products arrived to the parcel center on Tuesday, so overall, it was a bit over a week.

Since I am a Canadian based beauty blog, I should mention that shipping to Canada will probably take a bit longer. Luckily, I live about 45 minutes from the USA border so I had my package shipped to a US parcel service, which entitled free US shipping. Otherwise, shipping would have costed almost an additional $20 Canadian to my house (shipping rates differ depending on exchange rate, etc).

Yes, I know you might be thinking it’s not worth it to drive down to the states. If you think it’s not worth it and you rather pay for Canadian shipping & convenience – by all means, you are welcome to. For myself personally, after thinking about the pros and cons and calculating the gas cost, it was still cheaper to drive to the border. As well, I was able to go on a weekday early afternoon so there was no border wait at all. I was in and out of the states in literally 5 minutes, LOL.

For future orders, I might get it shipped to US again if I have time to go. But if not, I’ll just have to suck it up and pay the expensive shipping >.<
ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows ReviewHere are the three shades I ordered! For the super shock eyeshadows, ColourPop has six types of finish – satin, matte, metallic, ultra-metallic, pearlized, and pressed pigment.

The dark blue metallic shade is rex. The one beside it is porter, a warm purply/burgundy with gold glitter. Finally, the one on the bottom is stereo, a reddish/burgundy with copper metallic glitter sprinkled on top.

All three shades I ordered were the metallic finish. Upon first touch of the three eyeshadows, I found them to be very bouncy and light. I also find them to be slightly damp too, but the product goes on dry. I really like the formula of the metallic finish super shock eyeshadows and thought they were very unique. I also had no trouble with fallout, which is a major WIN in my books!

Needless to say, I was VERY impressed with the pigmentation and application of all three eyeshadows. I was in love at first application, and couldn’t believe that they were only $5 USD each! What a crazy steal!

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows ReviewHere is one of the looks I created using the eyeshadows. Look how pigmented it looks, and I didn’t even use that much of the product!

For this look, I am wearing stereo all over my eyelid, and used porter just above my upper lashline to give it a pop of colour.
ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows ReviewHere is another look I created using all three super shock eyeshadows. I am also wearing ColourPop’s Lippiestix in the shade dalia. I plan on doing a separate review for the Lippiestix!

Overall, I definitely recommend the ColourPop super shock eyeshadow and I wish I ordered more. They are amazingly pigmented, and the fact that they are so affordable makes it even better. Intense pigmentation, no fallout, long wear, and for $5 USD. I’m so glad I finally tried ColourPop because their products are just amazing!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

March 16, 2016

I have been trying to use up more of my lipstick collection lately, instead of sticking with the couple I normally turn to. I actually forgot I had this Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick, until I found it in one of my makeup bags today. I thiiiiink I bought this on Black Friday, but haven’t really worn it.

The Kat Von D tattoo liner is my holy grail liner and probably the single product I use the most! This lipstick is also from Kat Von D, so naturally I had very high expectations. It is part of the everlasting liquid lipstick line.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick I love the packaging of all of the Kat Von D products, and this one is no different. The tube features a pretty floral design, and is pretty sturdy.

I am pretty sure that I purchased the sample size. I vaguely remember purchasing a lipstick sample kit from KVD, and this size looks a bit small to be the full size. Nonetheless, I find sample sizes are better for me because it always takes me so long to finish up products, which is something I am working on!

This way, I can finish the product faster and it won’t keep long in my makeup storage (which is both sanitary and better for storage!).
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid LipstickThe Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick is very pigmented. Pictured above is just one stroke of the product! When I initially tried this product, I was very shocked at how richly pigmented it was. I definitely don’t need more than one coat of this, as it looks very bright on my lips.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid LipstickAs you can tell, it is a pretty bright shade. It took some time for me to get used to, as I normally don’t wear shades this bright!

When you first apply this lipstick, it will look a bit shiny like gloss, but will dries with a smooth and matte finish within a matter of seconds.

Again, this is only with one coat, so I was quite impressed at how rich the pigmentation was!
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid LipstickHere is another picture in direct sunlight in the car. Don’t worry, I was the passenger so I was not engaging in some unsafe driving practices! Also, the sun and my hair cast a shadow on the right side of my face (left on the screen). I just wanted to point that out in case anyone thought I had bad photo shopping skills LOL.

Overall, I really like the matte finish and rich pigmentation of this lipstick. It is definitely long lasting as well. Even after drinking from my water bottle and having some snacks, the lipstick did not really smudge or come off. Very impressive!

The only thing I would note is that, as in a lot of cases with matte lipsticks, is that it can be a bit drying. So, make sure your lips are properly moisturized and hydrated before wearing this lipstick, or any matte lipsticks in general! I ended up dabbing a tiny bit of Vaseline after a hour as I felt my lips beginning to dry out a bit.
