Stila Stay All Day Lip Liner

November 21, 2016

With the lip challenge, I have also been trying this Stila Stay All Day liner to go with some of the darker lipsticks!

Stila is pretty famous for their Stay All Day line. I am a big fan of their Stay All Day liner, foundation, and bronzer which I have also reviewed. I also have the Stay All Day brow pencil and the illuminating balm which I both love, but I haven’t had a chance to review those.
stila-stay-all-day-liner-caberetThe lip liner comes in a light plastic packaging. It is pretty thin, which means the pencil is even thinner. I’m cursed with broken lipsticks/liners if you saw my previous Stila Stay All Day Matte Lipstick post, so I was extra careful with this thin pencil!
stila-stay-all-day-liner-caberet-2I have the shade cabernet, which is a majestic deep plum red. It reminds me of a nice, dark wine. The pencil is very smooth and glides easily. It is also very pigmented!

Since the pencil is thin, it is very easy to get a nice, precise, clean line.
revlon-berry-drenchedHere is a picture with from the lip challenge, wearing this liner. I think it lines my lines very nicely and makes them look slightly more plumper!
colourpop-lippiestix-dalia-stila-cabernet-linerAnd another picture! I love how clean and precise the line looks, and brings out my cupid’s bow.

After writing this post, I looked it up on Stila’s website and found out their whole lip liner line is based on wine, with other shades such as rose, merlot, zinfandel, and moscato! Cool 🙂

Stila All Day Matte’ificent Lipstick

September 29, 2016

As I am writing this, there is a slight twinge of guilt because I feel like I should be focusing on finishing up an assignment due later this week. To make myself feel less guilty and to continue writing this post, I will justify it by assuring myself that it is a small assignment and I still have a few days to finish! 😀

Fun fact – I hate procrastinating and doing papers/assignments last minute. Throughout my five years in university so far, I have never had to pull an all nighter. But with that said, I am definitely not a straight A honours student either!

Anyways, I hope you like these sort of off-topic and random intros! I like throwing these types of intros in here because this blog also acts as a journal. I love going through old posts and reading what I was up to at the time of writing!
stila-stay-all-day-matteficient-mon-amiNow, onto the actual makeup review! Today, I will be reviewing the Stila Stay All Day Matte’ificent lipstick. I am a big fan of Stila’s Stay All Day foundation and eyeliner. This is my first time trying their lipsticks for the Stay All Day line.

This lipstick is also not completely matte, it is described as a creamy matte. So if you’re someone who is looking for a completely matte product, this isn’t for you.
stila-stay-all-day-matteficient-mon-ami-2I received the shade mon ami. It is described on Sephora’s website as a “rose nude”. I personally think this shade is more of a muted pink! I normally don’t wear this colour, but I thought I would give it a try.

Honestly, this shade in particular clashed with my skin tone. I’ve always avoided pinks like this in the past because I find it makes me look sick! However, I decided to keep it on the whole day for the sake of this review and to test out the formula!

Apart from this shade, I really enjoyed the formula. As it is described, I found the lipstick to be very lightweight, but very pigmented with a creamy matte finish. Throughout the day, I didn’t find my lips to be sucked dry from the formula, which I was very grateful for. It is infused with castor oil, argon oil, and vitamin E for moisture.

stila-stay-all-day-matteficient-mon-ami-4The lipstick lasted around six hours, with snacking and a meal in between. After about seven hours, half the pigment was gone, particularly in the middle of my lips. I mean, you could definitely still wear it past six hours because it was still there, but it looked pretty dull and not vibrant anymore.

For $29, I found this lipstick to be just alright. It didn’t blow my mind away, but it is a decent quality product. My favourite part of the product was how pigmented and creamy it was. My least favourite part was that it looked very dull towards the end, and you could see the drying lines.
stila-stay-all-day-matteficient-mon-ami-3On a side note, here is a beauty blogger fail that I’d like to share with you. The struggle of a broken lipstick, SIGH. Yes, there are hacks that you can use to fix this, but the lipstick is inconveniently stuck in the lid and I can’t scoop it out without ruining it and getting it all messy =(

If you are a clumsy person like me, I warn you to be careful with this lipstick as it is very creamy. It is also skinnier than most lipsticks, which increases the chance of it breaking =(

Stila Stay All Day Foundation (Re-Launch)

May 28, 2016

This summer, Stila has relaunched their Stay All Day foundation. The formula itself stayed the same, but they have repackaged the bottle into an easier center dispensing dish. The previous packaging featured a mini scoop, which Stila decided was a bit too messy.
Stila Stay All Day Foundation
Stila Stay All Day Foundation To use the foundation, you simply press lightly on the center plate. Product will come out afterwards in a neat circle, which makes it sanitary as well.

The foundation is a medium to full coverage. I was impressed at the coverage after one pump, but I decided to use another pump because I had this annoying zit on my face that did NOT want to be covered up! But it failed the battle, because this foundation was able to cover it up >=)
Stila Stay All Day Foundation Since the bottle is opaque and you’re unable to see the shade, there is a ‘window’ on the side of the bottle in which you can see the shade.
FoundationMy first impression of the foundation was that I really liked it. I loved the medium coverage and the slightly dewy and sheen finish as you can see in the photo above. Although, the description says it is a matte finish, it was on the dewy side for me. The foundation really smoothed out my skin tone and it still looks pretty natural.

However, after wearing it a few more times after, I’ve noticed that this foundation does not like to be used in conjunction with other facial products. When wearing this foundation with primer and setting powder as I always do, this foundation looked cakey, dry, and flakey, instead of the nice dewy finish I was used to.

When I wore this foundation again on its own again, I did not have a problem with it being flaky. So, I would only recommend using this product with moisturizer only and no other foundations. I’m glad that this foundation is long lasting even without primer. I really love this foundation and it will be using it as one of my regulars in the future!

I’m curious to see if others with combination skin like myself, or other skin types, found that this foundation didn’t mix well with primers and finishing powder foundations? Let me know!

Yay!

Thanks for reading,
Carmen

Stila ‘Perfect Me, Perfect Hue’ Eye & Cheek Palette

May 22, 2016

Stila has launched the Perfect Me, Perfect Hue Eye & Cheek Palette as part of their Summer 2016 collection. This palette just came out this month in addition to two other new products this summer: Stila Stay All Day Foundation (re-launch) and the Colour Correcting palette.

I will also be reviewing the foundation as well, so stay tuned for that!
Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue Palette ReviewThe packaging is consistent with all of Stila’s other products. However, there is the addition of cheetah print! I found the packaging to be good quality, and sturdy enough to put in your purse or luggage without having to worry about it breaking or opening.
Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue Palette ReviewTa-daaaa! Here are the shades. The bottom two are blushes, while the top shades are for your eyes. There are four versions of this palette, depending on your skin tone: fair/light, light/medium, medium/tan, and tan/dark.

The sample I received was actually for tan/deep skin, which meant it didn’t fit my skin tone completely. However, I will get into that in more detail further along in the review.
Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue Palette ReviewSwatches of the palette. Instead of putting down the shade names, I listed the swatches based on where they are supposed to go on your face. Of course, you don’t have to follow these suggestions if you don’t want to!
Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue Palette ReviewThe back of the palette also shows you which shades go where. For someone just starting out with makeup, this would be really helpful!

With the guide, I found it effortless to create a look that complimented each shade perfectly. A lot of the times before I use eyeshadow, I sit there for a good five minutes thinking of which shades to use, and where. I liked how I didn’t have to think about it and was able to create a look that I loved in under five minutes.

Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue Palette ReviewHere is the finished eye makeup look with the palette following the photo provided on the back of the palette! I was really impressed at how pigmented and blendable the product was. I couldn’t believe that it took me under five minutes to finish this look and I love how warm the shade is.

These colours would be perfect for a glamourous summer night out!
Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue Palette ReviewHere is a close up of the colours! Again, the shadows were really pigmented and super easy to blend.

You may be wondering about the blush? As mentioned in the beginning, the sample I received was tan/deep. The colours in the palette are chosen based on what shades would compliment your skin tone the most.

Because of this, I found the blush did not go well with my medium skin at all. The colour was too vibrant on my skin and made me look like a clown, LOL. Trust me, you don’t want to see how it looked on me. I’m sure that if I tried the blush in the light/medium palette, it would have turned out better.

However, I will say that the blushes are very pigmented as well. One quick dab produced an intense amount of colour!

In conclusion, I really enjoyed playing with this new palette and can see myself wearing the eyeshadow a lot. Even though I have the tan/deep palette, the eye shades still looked pretty good on my eyes. If I had the medium/light palette, I would definitely have used the blush too.

My favourite part of this palette was how quick and easy it was to blend and create the look! It’s nice to know that I can still have a great shadow look even if I am short on time.

You can find this palette at Shopper’s Drug Mart, Murale, and Sephora! This retails for $51 CAD.

Stila Foundation Haul & Review

August 29, 2015

Following the fall/holiday event I attended for Stila, I was generously given a few samples of their new products to try out! I’ve mentioned the ‘perfectly poreless’ line briefly on my event recap post but today, I will be doing a more detailed review after using the three products for almost a month now.
Stila Foundation Poreless Putty Bronzer Brush

I was first introduced to this line by Sarah Lucero, the Global Executive Director of Creative Artistry at Stila who led us through all the new products that day. The products I will be reviewing today are seen on the far left of this photo.

Stila Foundation Poreless Putty Bronzer Brush

Starting off with the new Wonder Brush, I really liked this brush at the event and was quite happy to see it in my sample bag once I got home! As the name suggests, the Wonder Brush is a versatile brush, which you can use for a multitude of different foundation steps. It was also designed by Sarah herself – how cool is that?!

I liked how dense and soft the brush was. I wish that it came with a cap so that I could bring this around in my purse for touch-ups though.
Stila Foundation Poreless Putty Perfector

Secondly, is the perfectly poreless putty perfector. This product is a combination of a cream foundation and loose powder. The best way to describe this product would be ‘bouncy’ but also slightly more dense due to the cream ingredients in it.

Although it feels very bouncy and slightly dense, the product does go on lightly and is very smooth to the touch. I was quite surprised at how lightweight the product felt, considering that it felt and looked pretty dense in the case!

Stila Foundation Poreless Putty Bronzer Brush

Thirdly is the Stay All Day face and body bronzer’. You might be familiar with the Stay All Day liquid liner from Stila, which I really love! This bronzer is an addition that line.

I really love the detailing of the product and how both foundations can be easily brought on the go. Both feature a mirror inside, and feel very sturdy so you don’t have to worry about the product accidentally opening in your purse or cracking!

Stila Foundation Poreless Putty Bronzer BrushI used the Wonder Brush to apply my foundation. The foundation applied very easily and was pretty lightweight on my skin. The foundation is a light to medium finish, depending on how much you put on as it is very, very buildable! On some days, I used this for a light finish but on days where I wanted more coverage, I simply applied a bit more.

Afterwards, I used the bronzer to contour my face. The bronzer goes on pretty light, which I prefer because I’ve owned some bronzers that look too harsh. Also, you can easily pick how much product you’d like, making this bronzer super buildable as well. For each cheek area, I swiped the brush three times in the bronzer.

If you are new to contouring, I would recommend using this brush as you can easily put it on an angle and swipe bronzer on your face, then blend the product out. Since the brush is so dense, it delivers a nice and even colour on the first swipe.

I always use primer before my foundation, but I decided to test these products out by eliminating it. After a whole day of shopping, I noticed that my foundation was still on but it was not as smooth looking as it initially was. As with most foundations and my slightly oily skin, I touched this up in the evening and it was as good as new!

—

In conclusion, I really enjoyed incorporating these foundations into my routine and will be continuing to use them. I like how lightweight the two products felt, and how easy it was to apply and contour with the Wonder Brush. You could use these products daily, as they look very natural but you can easily build the coverage up if you would like.

You can find these products at Shopper’s Drug Mart and Murale.
